Arizona Superintendent of Public Instruction

Who are you? Tell us about yourself.

My name is Gerard Davis. I am a retired appointed public administrator and a Green candidate for Arizona Superintendent of Public Instruction. I am running because of accusations of fraud, waste, and abuse in the Empowerment Scholarship Account program and concern for the educational needs for children with developmental disabilities and children in the foster care system.

Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?

I began my career in public service as an intern at the Arizona Department of Education. I had the privilege of helping Arizona families apply for the Empowerment Scholarship Account program. I was skeptical at first, but after talking with parents, I got a better understanding of the importance of the program for Arizona children. After graduating from Arizona State University, I was hired as a case manager with the Arizona Department of Child Safety. As a case manager, I was responsible for the wellbeing of children in Arizona's foster care system. Because of instability faced by foster children, they tended to move quite frequently, which negatively effected their educational needs. As Arizona Superintendent of Public Instruction, I will make their educational needs a priority. After leaving the Arizona Department of Child Safety, I was hired as a case manager with the Arizona Department of Economic Security - Division of Developmental Disabilities. As a case manager, I found that children with developmental disabilities often received uneven special education needs. As Arizona Superintendent of Public Instruction, I will make their special educational needs a priority.

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?

I am passionate about education. I believe every Arizona student deserves the best possible educational outcome. As Arizona Superintendent of Public Institution, I will work with local school districts to insure that Arizona student achieve the best possible educational outcomes.
