In their own words
Who are you? Tell us about yourself.
I am a husband to my beautiful wife of fifty years, a father of four children, and twelve grandchildren. I served in the United States Army for twenty years as a chaplain, and upon retirement I was a pastor for seven more years. I feel that God has called me to serve my country one last time and that is in the halls of Congress to fight for the rights of my future constituents and all American's for that matter. I will fight to honor those who have passed. I will fight to preserve opportunity for present generations. Lastly, I will fight to ensure the blessings of liberty for those who have not yet lived in this great nation.
Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?
Put God back in Government - It's crucial to the survival of our nation, we must restore Christian values in legislation.Protecting Medical Freedom - Washington got COVID wrong. It's not the government's job to regulate your medical decisions. This is the Land of the Free.Drain the Swamp - Corruption has run rampant inWashington for far too long. The only way to stop it is with term limits on politicians and bureaucrats.
What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?
Our Constitution gives Congress a legislative function. Congress often codes much of the legislative process to agencies. Even further, many agencies are granted executive and judicial functions, thereby giving them unconstitutional power over Americans. This power erodes God- given rights. Congress must reassert its legislative authority.
Is there a book, essay, film, or something else you would recommend to someone who wants to understand your political philosophy?
"Jesus Is Involved in Politics" by Neil Mammen and "The Founders Bible"
What characteristics or principles are most important for an elected official?
Integrity - Integrity - Integrity
What qualities do you possess that you believe would make you a successful officeholder?
I believe in God and his response to our prayers. My experience as chaplain will aid me in encouraging pastors to engage actively in our nation's affairs.
What do you believe are the core responsibilities for someone elected to this office?
A Congressional Representative needs to read, understand, and faithfully apply his or her understanding of the Constitution as they pursue their official duties. They should advocate for their constituents within constitution ethical, and moral guidelines.
What legacy would you like to leave?
A legacy of spearheading a return to our founding principles. A nation of laws rather than a nation of men.
What is the first historical event that happened in your lifetime that you remember? How old were you at the time?
When I was younger, I remember quite well the sense of fear on the radio and in the air when it was announced that the Soviet Union had detonated it's first Atomic Bomb. It was an event that advanced my belief that the United States must have a strong military in order to defend our republic.
What is something that has been a struggle in your life?
My strive to love and please God as deeply as I possibly can for all of his gracious blessings freely given to me.
Do you believe that it's beneficial for representatives to have previous experience in government or politics?
No, it is contradictory to the Constitution. When the U.S. Constitution was written and the House of Representatives was formed, none of the founders really had "experience in government." Their experience was in rebellion against the establishment! Their experience was in the convictions of their beliefs!
What do you perceive to be the United States' greatest challenges as a nation over the next decade?
Returning to the religious and moral foundations that made America the "Shining City on the Hill."
If you are not a current representative, are there certain committees that you would want to be a part of?
Veterans' Affairs, Homeland Security, Judiciary, and Foreign Affairs.
Do you believe that two years is the right term length for representatives?
Yes, the House of Representatives was created to be "The Peoples' House," which implies that it's always changing as the populations, demographics, and opinions of constituencies change.
What are your thoughts on term limits?
Term limits are the only way that we will begin to truly start rooting out the corruption in Washington. We need to enact the 8-10-12 plan which calls for an 8 year limit on the presidency (which we already have), a 10 year limit on a U.S. representative, and 12 year limit on U.S. senator. We cannot only stop at elected officials though, we need to also focus on bureaucrats. I will propose legislation that caps all top level bureaucratic positions to 10 years of service max.
Is there a particular representative, past or present, whom you want to model yourself after?
Daniel Webster
Do you believe that compromise is necessary or desirable for policymaking?
Compromise is a slippery slope as a conservative. Conservative ideology calls for very limited government with a lot of liberty. When we compromise with an opposition who wishes to expand the reach of the federal government, we always lose.
The Constitution says that all bills for raising revenue must originate in the House. What role would this power play in your priorities if elected?
This power enumerated by the U.S. constitution is why I plan to put forth legislation to restructure our broken and failing tax system. I will advocate for legislation that abolishes the regressive income tax system that's propped up by the IRS and for the system to be replaced with a fair consumption/sales tax. To abandon all federal taxes except for a sales tax would act as rocket fuel to the U.S. economy as businesses and companies would be pouring into the U.S. as well all sorts of wealth that will increase investment in our jobs and economy.
