In their own words
Who are you? Tell us about yourself.
I am husband, father and grandfather who has lived in House District 70 over 35 years. I have a technology background from MIT, a business background (MBA) from Wake Forest, and a law degree from SMU. I am a former Texas District Judge who will bring Texas values, commonsense solutions, and a strong work ethic to the job of Texas representative. I was known as a fair judge who followed the law and I will bring that balanced conservative perspective to the legislature.
Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?
I want to eliminate property taxes for homeowners. This will promote home ownership, reduce the costs of owning a home, and protect people's homes. The state government has sufficient funds to make up any loss of local tax revenue.I want to lower the cost of healthcare by putting healthcare providers and patients back in charge and by creating a system where patients paying for their own healthcare pay no more than the providers would otherwise receive from private insurance. I also want to expand the number of quality primary care providers by granting nurse practitioners full practice authority, thereby expanding primary care services in underserved areas and reducing costs of primary care services.I want to cut government waste and increase effectiveness of Texas government programs. Private enterprise should be used to efficiently and effectively deliver services when it makes sense to do so. Government programs should be subject to strong sunset review and should be assessed according to their effectiveness and not according to how much they spend. Effective controls should be in place to ensure that government programs are serving those people and communities they are intended to serve. Fraud and abuse should be prosecuted with real consequences for the abusers.
What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?
Given my technology background and my legal work through the years with healthcare providers, I am passionate about (a) reforms to our healthcare system which deliver real cost savings to patients and which are designed to re-establish an effective provider/patient relationship, (b) reforms to our state government to reduce costs and return taxpayer money while increasing service quality and eliminating property taxes for homeowners, and (c) effective planning and funding so that Texas' energy and water infrastructure is sufficient in the future to support our growing economy and population.
