In their own words

Who are you? Tell us about yourself.

I'm 62, a Democrat, and a 10-year U.S. Army Veteran. I serve my country, not a president. I follow laws, not lawmakers. I don't and won't discriminate against anyone for their looks, race, sexual orientation, or religion. I stand with all Georgians as equals. I drive a truck, own guns, go to church, and am a dog dad. I work full-time, I'm no millionaire, and I don't own a business to write laws I can profit from. I earned my Bachelor's degree from Ottawa University in Arizona and my Master's from the University of the Incarnate Word in Texas, where I studied Journalism and Communications. But the real learning came from 45 years on the ground as an investigative journalist and columnist, exposing corruption and bad government at all levels - from zoning boards and city councils to members of Congress to presidential candidates.

Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?

I’m running to be your senator because friends and folks I care about in North Georgia are struggling, with a chronically unstable job market, low pay, rising costs, and an inflated housing market. Our Republican leaders simply aren’t leading. They reject any demand for public town halls. They get personally richer from corporations and donors in exchange for legislative favors. They’re not working for you. They've forgotten that they’re public servants.• Specific tax relief for retirees & people on fixed incomes and workers; eliminate homestead property taxes on 5 residential acres or less. • Improve/expand health care, facilities, accessibility and support services for Seniors & Veterans; Increase federal & state funding for hospitals, clinics and medical staff; at least 1 full-service publicly funded clinic in every county.• A tie for third: ▪︎ Raise our national rankings in Health Care (37th), Per Capita Income (33rd), Education (27th), Child/Family Well-Being (42nd) & Business Growth (26th). ▪︎ Rewrite our 42-year-old Quality of Basic Education (QBE) formula; Restore Civics, Home Economics (Life Arts) and Industrial Arts in public schools. If you want clearly stated legislation with specific goals and objectives; if you want a senator who will answer questions with more than a form letter and a photo op; if you want a watchdog to expose corruption and pay-to-play politics; if you want a senator who will always focus on your problems instead of partisan rage-baiting rhetoric, vote for me.

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?

Tax reform, increased/enhanced medical care for Seniors and Veterans, truly affordable workforce housing, increasing Georgia's poor national rankings, increase the state minimum wage, state funded First Responder retirement program, completely separate religion and politics, get ALL religion and ideologies out of public schools, legalize marijuana, especially for medicinal and pain relief purposes

What organizations or individuals have endorsed your campaign?

Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?

Georgia has been 100% controlled by Republicans since 2004 - Governor, Senate and House. Our state government is a shambles of corruption, redundancy, inefficiency and allegiance to corporations and rich donors, and no longer functionally serves the voters who aren't rich or influential. Georgia Republicans now simply parrot the politics and language of the president and his followers, instead of listening to and heeding their constituents needs. Too many photo ops and not enough meaningful, public-serving legislation. Georgia cannot thrive with a monopolistic, one-party state government without checks, balances and total transparency to the voters.I'm 62, a conservative Democrat, and U.S. Army veteran, with 45 years of political journalism and investigative reporting experience at all levels of government - from zoning boards to presidential candidates.

I believe the oaths to support and defend the Constitutions of the United States and Georgia are sacred, and that the government we fund should serve us and keep all of us healthy, comfortable and thriving.

I serve my country, not a president. I follow laws, not lawmakers. I speak truth, not rhetoric. I'm far from being a millionaire and I don't own a business that I can write laws to profit from. I'm a truck-driving, gun-owning, church-going husband, father and grandfather, and dog dad.If you're unhappy, dissatisfied or angry at the quality and inefficiency of the Georgia General Assembly, you can only blame Republicans, because Democrats haven't been in charge of anything at the state level for two-and-a-half decades.
