In their own words

Who are you? Tell us about yourself.

Garret Rushforth grew up in Centerville Utah, and following in his parent's footsteps became a public school teacher. He teaches Social Studies and Theater. He is running for office so that the people in senate district 7 actually have someone who understands what it is to struggle instead of someone who hasn't been active in the community in years.

He wants every person in Davis County to feel like they have a real, sincere, and authentic person representing them. Someone who understands the cost of living crisis, the fear about the diminishing Great Salt Lake, the issues in Education, wanting actual fair maps.

Garret cares about the community and will show up everyday to prove it.

Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?

Education is the most valuable investment in the state and those who are discouraged with it have every right to be. But the solution is not to take funding out of education, but rather to invest IN education. Utah has the lowest per-pupil spending in the United States. By putting money into the future of these kids, we will be giving them access to some of the most hardworking and passionate teachers in the world. Education is a collaboration between parents and teachers and I want to make sure both groups have the tools they need to help these kids be successful. The Great Salt Lake is a finite resource, and with a hot and dry climate continuing to dominate the Wasatch front, we need to make sure that we are prioritizing the health of our water systems and addressing appropriate solutions to conservation and restoration of the Great Salt Lake. A body of water that is responsible for the health of millions of migratory birds, billions of dollars of the state's GDP, and inspired the name of our State's Capitol.

I will support and bring forward legislation that will strengthen efforts to conserve and restore the great salt lake.Fair maps are essential to effective and moral governance. People have been begging the Utah Legislature to ensure that maps are fair. To make sure that legislative and congressional maps are actually indicative of the breadth of belief and moral systems in the state.

I will support fair mapping practices and endeavors each and every day. I will work with mapping professionals to ensure that policy is in line with Prop 4's requirements and I will fight for each person to have maps that really represent Utah.
