In their own words
Who are you? Tell us about yourself.
I am Evelyn Castillo-Bach, running to be the next Governor of Florida. I have been an Independent voter for most of my adult life and chose to run as a Democrat because I believe Florida families deserve a fighter, not a politician. I am the Executive Director of Balanced Justice Network, a criminal justice reform organization. I have published clear, strong positions that protect ordinary Floridians: banning medical debt, banning the middlemen in property insurance, tackling the cost-of-living crisis, prison reform, criminal justice reform, banning secret AI data center deals, and funding affordable housing. My motto is People First, Not Politics. My three pillars are Health, Home, and Freedom.
Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?
I will move to ban medical debt in Florida. No family should go bankrupt because they got sick.
Until Medicare for All becomes federal law, Florida should provide direct payment to medical providers for people who cannot afford insurance.
Large-scale companies — not mom and pops — should make mandatory contributions to a fund that supports free medical care for Floridians who need it.I will ban secret NDAs for AI hyperscale data centers. I support a moratorium on new data centers until independent third-party scientific assessment of their environmental impact, water consumption, and energy efficiency is completed. Mandatory fees on approved developments will fund affordable housing for working families. Look at my press releases.I will expose and stop the affiliate company scheme that lets property insurers hide billions in profits while Florida homeowners pay crushing rates. Cutting property taxes is a distraction — the real culprit is in unregulated insurance affiliates.
I will also protect renters from predatory corporate landlords and create a Florida State Rental Voucher Program.
What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?
I am passionate about criminal justice reform. My eldest son has served twenty-five years of an illegal life sentence. I founded Balanced Justice Network to advocate for reform.
I am passionate about banning medical debt. Health care is a right, not a privilege. No one should profit from sickness.
I am passionate about protecting children with special needs. My son died of epilepsy and was autistic. I support free lunch and breakfast programs.
I am passionate about protecting people with disabilities. My aunt lost a leg to cancer when she was young and pregnant. She was brave.
I am passionate about free medical care for Floridians who cannot afford it, and protecting seniors from homelessness.
