In their own words

Who are you? Tell us about yourself.

I am a Mom, grandmother and retired pediatric physical therapist. I spent over 35 years working with kids from birth to age 22., with or at risk of developing disabilities. This work was in schools, daycares, HeadStarts, and homes. . Much of the work included their families. I am married and have 2 sons , one of which has severe autism. I also have a grandson and a granddaughter. I served on numerous non-profit or public Boards, frequently as President or Chair. These included the NM Autism Society, NM Chapter of the American Physical Therapy Association, NM Developmental Disabilities Council, Education of Parents of Indian Children with Special Needs, Disability Rights NM, SYNCRONYS (NM’s electronic medical records) and the Interagency Coordinating Council for the state Family Infant Toddler Program. I have served 12 years in the House of Representatives, previously Chairing the House Consumer and Public Affairs, NM Finance Authority Oversight and the Tobacco Settlement Oversight Committees. I currently Chair both the Legislative and House Health and Human Services Committees. I served 4 years on the House Appropriations and Finance Committee. I tend to sponsor a large number of Bills in areas such as healthcare, tobacco policy, education, public safety, children and families.

Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?

Healthcare is a right. The profit motive has turned our healthcare systems into a nightmare for most New Mexicans. I am working hard to ensure healthcare is accessible and affordable for all.I ran to be a voice for those who frequently had not been heard or prioritized in the Legislature-kids, people with disabilities, women, people living in poverty. I continue to attempt to hear them and serve on their behalf.I always maintain that our budgets are moral documents and fight to prioritize that.

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?

Healthcare, children, disabilities, education.

What organizations or individuals have endorsed your campaign?

Sierra Club, AFT, multiple unions, Equality NM.
