Who are you? Tell us about yourself.

I am a proud Jamaica, Queens native, raised in a bipartisan household that values both sides of the political spectrum. My father, a small business owner, and my mother, a union leader, instilled in me a sense of responsibility and a diverse perspective. My educational journey took me through the NYC public school system, graduating from P.S.132, I.S.109, and Springfield Gardens High School.

During my youth, I dedicated countless hours to community service as an NYPD Explorer, gaining valuable insights into civic engagement. Concurrently, I served as a team leader at the M.S.72 Beacon Afterschool program, tutoring elementary school children while navigating high school and college. Post-graduation with honors from Stony Brook University, where I also had the enriching experience of studying abroad in China, I devoted over 5 years to education as a 9th-grade English teacher and college counselor. After leaving the education field I traveled the world as a professional actor, model, and music artist.

Currently, I proudly serve as a Republican county committee member in the 29th Assembly District. My unique experiences have cultivated a worldly view of contemporary issues, and my deep love for Queens, New York City, and America propels my commitment to addressing pressing matters in my district and the nation. Determined to find practical solutions, I aim to contribute to making America great again for everyone.

What do you believe are the core responsibilities for someone elected to this office?

The core responsibility of a Congressman is to serve as a representative of the people, embodying the democratic principles upon which the nation was founded. Elected to the United States House of Representatives, a Congressman shoulders the responsibility of voicing the concerns, needs, and aspirations of their constituents at the federal level.

At the heart of their role lies legislation, as Congressmen are tasked with introducing, debating, and voting on bills that shape the nation's laws. They must actively engage in the legislative process, crafting policies that reflect the interests and values of the diverse communities they represent. This demands a keen understanding of the complexities of governance, an awareness of the socio-economic landscape, and the ability to navigate the intricacies of the political system.

Moreover, Congressmen play a crucial oversight role, monitoring the executive branch's implementation of laws and policies. Through committee work, hearings, and investigations, they ensure accountability and transparency in the functioning of the federal government. Oversight is a vital aspect of their duty, preventing abuse of power and safeguarding the democratic principles upon which the nation thrives.

Constituent representation is another key responsibility. Congressmen act as a bridge between their constituents and the federal government, listening to their concerns, advocating for their needs, and working to address issues that impact their daily lives. This requires effective communication, accessibility, and a genuine commitment to understanding the diverse perspectives within their districts.

Ultimately, a Congressman's core responsibility is to be a dedicated public servant. This encompasses upholding the Constitution, defending democratic values, and working tirelessly to improve the lives of those they represent.

Starting my career at McDonald's at the age of 16 was a formative experience that instilled in me the fundamental value of hard work. I was employed at McDonalds for one summer. In the fast-paced environment of a restaurant, I learned the importance of diligence, efficiency, and dedication.

Working in the service industry demanded a strong work ethic as we navigated high-volume periods, customer interactions, and tight schedules. The fast-food environment required quick thinking, multitasking, and effective communication – skills that have proven invaluable in various aspects of my personal and professional life.

The experience also underscored the significance of teamwork. Collaborating with colleagues to ensure smooth operations and provide excellent customer service taught me the impact of collective effort. I discovered that a cohesive team working towards a common goal can achieve remarkable results.

Moreover, the job at McDonald's shaped my understanding of customer service and the importance of meeting and exceeding expectations. It emphasized the significance of a positive attitude, attention to detail, and a commitment to delivering a quality experience to customers.

The lessons learned during my time at McDonald's have stayed with me throughout my career, influencing my approach to challenges and reinforcing the belief that hard work is a cornerstone of success. What qualities does the U.S. House of Representatives possess that makes it unique as an institution?

Proportional Representation: Unlike the Senate, where each state is represented by two senators regardless of population, the House of Representatives provides proportional representation based on population. This ensures that states with larger populations have greater representation, reflecting the diversity of the American populace.

Close Connection to the People: House members are elected every two years, making them more responsive and directly accountable to their constituents. This close connection to the people allows representatives to understand and address the specific needs and concerns of their districts.

Initiating Revenue Bills: The House has the exclusive authority to initiate revenue bills, including taxation and government spending measures. This power underscores the House's role in shaping fiscal policy and managing the nation's finances.

Leadership Structure: The House has a unique leadership structure, with the Speaker of the House serving as the presiding officer and leader of the majority party. Additionally, the House has various committees and subcommittees that play crucial roles in the legislative process, allowing members to specialize in specific policy areas.

Do you believe that it's beneficial for representatives to have previous experience in government or politics?

No, it is not necessary for representatives to have previous experience in government or politics. In fact, embracing a diversity of backgrounds and experiences can be beneficial for the effectiveness and representativeness of the legislative body.

Firstly, individuals with diverse backgrounds, including those outside of politics, bring a range of perspectives and fresh ideas to the table. Representatives with experiences in various fields such as business, science, education, or community activism can offer unique insights and innovative solutions to the complex challenges faced by society.

Secondly, a government that includes representatives with non-political backgrounds can better reflect the diversity of the population. This inclusivity can enhance the legitimacy of the legislative process and foster a stronger connection between elected officials and the people they serve.

Moreover, individuals entering politics from outside the traditional political sphere may be less likely to be entrenched in partisan politics. This can promote a more collaborative and bipartisan approach to policymaking, focusing on finding common ground rather than perpetuating ideological divides.

While some argue that political experience brings valuable skills and understanding of the legislative process, it is crucial to recognize that effective representation goes beyond political maneuvering. A representative's ability to connect with constituents, understand their needs, and advocate for their interests is equally important.

In conclusion, foregoing the requirement for representatives to have previous experience in government or politics allows for a more diverse, inclusive, and innovative legislative body that better represents the complexity of the American population. It fosters a dynamic political landscape that can adapt to the evolving needs of society.

What do you perceive to be the United States' greatest challenges as a nation over the next decade?

Our immediate national challenge lies in addressing the pressing issue of curbing illegal immigration, which poses a significant threat to our country. Looking towards the medium and long term, our primary concerns revolve around the inadequacies of our education system, failing to adequately prepare students for the future, and our deteriorating infrastructure, impeding safe and efficient travel. These complex challenges demand comprehensive and strategic solutions to ensure the well-being and prosperity of our nation in both the short and long run. Advocating for American-first policies is crucial to enhance the quality of life for tax-paying citizens. It's high time we prioritize investing in our country, as fixing our internal issues is imperative for leading today and securing a successful future

What are your thoughts on term limits?

I suggest implementing a maximum limit of six terms or 12 years for members of Congress and two terms or 12 years for Senators. It's time to shift away from having long-standing politicians who may lose touch with the public. Instead, we should encourage a system that motivates individuals to engage in politics, champion reforms, and then transition out, fostering a more dynamic and responsive political environment.

Do you believe that compromise is necessary or desirable for policymaking?

Yes, compromise is both necessary and desirable for effective policymaking. In a diverse and democratic society, individuals and groups hold varying perspectives and interests. Compromise allows policymakers to find common ground, ensuring that policies reflect a broader consensus and serve the collective interests of the people. It fosters collaboration, encourages inclusivity, and helps avoid polarization.

Successful governance often requires balancing competing priorities and perspectives. Compromise is a means to bridge ideological gaps, facilitate cooperation between political parties, and promote the overall well-being of the nation. It demonstrates a commitment to finding practical solutions that address the complex challenges faced by society.

While compromise is essential, it's important to strike a balance and ensure that core principles and values are not sacrificed. Effective policymaking involves negotiation and flexibility, but it should also uphold fundamental principles that align with the public's best interests.

What committees interest you?

The Education and Workforce Committee holds profound importance for me, drawing from my background in education. It's evident that our students are falling behind, unprepared for the future challenges. My vision for this committee involves the implementation of technical training and trade programs in every high school across America. This initiative aims to offer alternative pathways for students to achieve the American dream, acknowledging that college may not be the right fit for everyone. By providing students with the necessary tools, we can empower them to contribute to the reconstruction of America's crumbling infrastructure, simultaneously elevating individuals into the middle class. Furthermore, I advocate for the reintroduction of civics education, coupled with mandatory community service requirements for graduation. This comprehensive approach not only imparts essential civics knowledge but also fosters a sense of responsibility and civic engagement beyond the confines of the classroom. Together, these measures aim to equip our students with practical skills, diverse career options, and a well-rounded education that prepares them for the challenges of the future.

The Transportation & Infrastructure committee holds a special significance for me, driven by my extensive global travels that highlight the evident decay of our nation, verging on resembling a developing country. The deplorable state of the NYC subway system, frequently derailing trains, and the crumbling highways and bridges underscore the urgent need for transformation. Collaborating with tech leaders, I aim to leverage cutting-edge technology to spearhead a comprehensive rebuilding initiative for America's future. Propelling our nation forward, I envision a network of high-speed rail connecting every major city and capital, revolutionizing transportation.

What are your views on financial transparency and government accountability?

Financial transparency and government accountability are fundamental pillars of a healthy democracy. As a foundational principle, financial transparency ensures that citizens have access to information about how public funds are utilized, promoting trust and accountability in government institutions. It involves disclosing budgetary allocations, expenditures, and revenue sources in a clear and accessible manner.

Government accountability, on the other hand, goes hand in hand with transparency. Elected officials and government agencies must be answerable for their actions, decisions, and the management of public resources. This requires mechanisms for oversight, checks and balances, and the ability for citizens to hold their representatives accountable through elections and other democratic processes.

I believe in promoting robust financial transparency to empower citizens with the information they need to make informed judgments about their government. This transparency should extend to all levels of government, fostering a culture of openness that deters corruption, waste, and mismanagement of public funds. It involves utilizing technology and modern communication channels to ensure that financial information is easily accessible to the public.

Accountability mechanisms should be strengthened to enforce consequences for wrongdoing or incompetence within the government. This includes an independent judiciary, effective auditing processes, and investigative bodies to address any malfeasance. Whistleblower protection is also crucial to encourage individuals to come forward with information about wrongdoing without fear of retaliation.

In summary, financial transparency and government accountability are indispensable for maintaining the public's trust, upholding democratic values, and ensuring that the government serves the best interests of its citizens. As an elected official, I would advocate for and actively work towards enhancing these principles.
