In their own words
Who are you? Tell us about yourself.
My name is Dru Koester. You haven’t heard of me before, and that’s okay. I didn’t come from any fancy ivy league schools or gated communities. I don’t backpack in Europe or belong to any clubs that require jackets & pedigrees… Nothing wrong with those things; in fact, they’re pretty nice. (Life is meant to have wonderful experiences, after all.)But that’s just not where I come from — I’m from a farm in the heart of Eastern Montana. I grew up “riding the ditch” with my dad to check tubes on the sugar beet fields. Eating peas from my mom’s garden while the insects sang loudly on summer nights. Or climbing snow drifts in winter so high we could step right onto our garage roof.As a teen, I attended a small class C school at the base of the Crazy Mountains and spent hours driving down dirt roads in a GMC Suburban or driving down dirt rows in a red International, listening to the radio endlessly loop Reba and George. My roots in this incredible state are deep, growing generations back. I know what it’s like to work in a field from sun up to sun down. I know how to build, not to take. And I know what it means to be a part of Montana, the greatest state in the Union, from the prairies to the mountains, to the fairgrounds, to the national parks.I care about this state, my very large hometown, and I love and care about the community in Helena, full of some of the best people you’ll ever meet.
Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?
I’d like to be a nation at peace.
Our children will have a brighter future if we are trading goods with the world economy instead of bombs. These foreign wars are pillaging our wealth and creating enemies abroad.
I am the peace candidate in this race. I've supported legislation to protect our troops, at the state level, from illegal wars. As State Senator for District 41, I'll fight for peace, in the tradition of the Montanan Congresswoman Jeannette Rankin.I'd like to see the prosperity of the American Dream return to my state.
I’d like my children and grandchildren to be able to afford a home in our local town and not be forced to move away… or at least afford a trip to the ER, for goodness sakes.
Free market solutions work and, thus far, decades of socialism have inflated costs beyond reach. Housing regulations can make up about 25% of single family house costs and 40% of multifamily housing projects. Many hospitals in Montana are over 70% taxpayer funded. Young people are starting out life drowning in student loans.
This isn't working. The answer isn't to tax the next generation more and spend even more, thus inflating costs more... The answer is a free the market.I’d like justice to be served across the board, whether someone is powerfully connected or not… the Epstein Files have shown a light on how corrupt our powerful offices have become and how both parties have failed the people. There is incredible anger and apathy in the land right now. The people don't trust that we have a just system anymore, and I can't blame them.
While powerful criminals walk free, our courts are tied up with petty, victimless crimes.
Everyone can see that a change is needed and that more of the same is not sustainable.
What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?
Defend the Guard.
Less taxation.
Less spending.
Less regulations.
More freedom.
More prosperity.
A just legal system.
