In their own words

Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?

Diop Harris is a community leader, policy advocate, and former Congressional staffer running for U.S. Congress to fight for every resident of our piece of Southwest Michigan. Throughout his career, Diop has worked to bring people together, especially when they disagree. Whether building coalitions in Washington or working alongside neighbors back home, Diop has proven that finding common ground is still possible even in divided times.

Southwest Michigan is home to people of all political stripes; Diop understands that true progress requires standing up for what you believe, respecting others by listening, and working toward solutions rather than telling people how to feel. Now, Diop is back home in Michigan and running for Congress to give Southwest Michigan a fighter in Washington. Not only does he know this community, he has been serving it for years. It’s time to elect one of us to fight for all of us. Public office should be about serving the people who entrusted you to represent them in office, not self-interest. Too many politicians use their positions to cozy up to the richest people in the country to get power rather than use their power to effectively serve their communities.

Diop knows what true public service looks like. As a Congressional staffer, I listened when constituents called, showed up when they needed help, and worked to deliver real results. That’s the standard I will bring to CongressOur economy should work for everyone, especially those who do the work–not just the rich who rig the system. It’s past time we redesigned our economy to put our health and well-being first, ensuring everyone can contribute and succeed.

The next era of American innovation, from renewable energy to advanced manufacturing, must be built by and for working people. Too often, new industries create wealth for executives and shareholders while leaving workers behind. I believe that our future should look different: one where Michigan leads in clean energy and technology, and where every job created is a good, union job with fair wages, benefits, and protections.
