Who are you? Tell us about yourself.
My Name is Detrick DeBurr. I live in The Colony, Texas. I've been a planning and zoning commissioner in North Texas for almost 17 years. 8 Years in Cedar Hill, Texas with another 9 years in The Colony, Texas. I'm a software engineer by training.
Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?
The fight over funding public schools in Texas will be a major issue in the next legislative session. I am 100% against vouchers as they have been presented. Nearly 1.7 Million Texans lost Medicaid benefits over the past year, while more than two-thirds of Texans support Medicaid expansion. I'm 100% in support of any legislation that expands Medicaid. We need that $5 billion in federal support to provide healthcare for Texans. We must raise the legal age to obtain assault weapons in Texas to at least 21. However, Texas law only requires buyers of any type of firearm to be 18 or older. This allows an 18-year-old to buy an assault weapon when they can't even buy a handgun. Every gun sale should require a background check. Texans can obtain guns through private sales and gun shows to avoid federal background check requirements. We have to close this loophole.
What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?

What was your very first job? How long did you have it?
My first job was working in a General Motors assembly plant at 17. It was a summer job. I was able to join the union and work alongside hard working people. It helped me to really appreciate an opportunity to further my education. Many of these people didn't have that opportunity.
