Background

Derrick Johns was born in New Britain, Connecticut. Johns' professional experience includes working as the founder and CEO of DiFusion Inc. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1987 to 1991. Johns earned a bachelor's degree from Hamilton College in 1995.[1]

Johns has been affiliated with the American Legion, YAL, and DAV.[1]

Who are you? Tell us about yourself.

I am a former US Marine and successful biotech entrepreneur. I am married to Jennifer my wife of 25 years. We have 2 daughters Erynn 22 - West Point Graduate and Kaitlynn currently a Midshipman 2nd Class at the US Naval Academy. I attended Hamilton College 1995 - Senior Thesis on Viral Evolution

Pericles fro ancient Greece - the warrior politician who was the greatest politician in the history of Athens. He was a great tactician on the battlefield and a great political strategist. He presided over the greatest time for Athens and was loved by the people

Integrity

What qualities do you possess that you believe would make you a successful officeholder?

I am a fighter and a contingency planner, when I set a goal I achieve that goal. Not always with my first second or third plan, but I always get there, the route changes fluently.

What do you believe are the core responsibilities for someone elected to this office?

To represent the PEOPLE, not the Lobbyists, not the Corporations not the PAC's

What legacy would you like to leave?

I would like to help lead a grass roots revolt against establishment republicans inn Texas and in every district a GOP 3+ term RINO sits.

What is the first historical event that happened in your lifetime that you remember? How old were you at the time?

Iran Contra and Reagan Assassination attempt

What was your very first job? How long did you have it?

My first job was clearing lots for residential construction. I did it for 2 consecutive summers at age 15 and 16.

What is your favorite book? Why?

Count of one Christo - He was the ultimate "planner and strategist"

If you could be any fictional character, who would you want to be?

Maximus - from Gladiator, for he returned the REPUBLIC to the PEOPLE

What was the last song that got stuck in your head?

We went out last night - Kenney Chesney

What is something that has been a struggle in your life?

Building a startup biotech fro scratch over 13 years was a far bigger challenge than I had envisioned. In the end, while success is rewarding I realized the JOURNEY is what made me the man I am today rather than the destination.

What qualities does the U.S. House of Representatives possess that makes it unique as an institution?

None worthy of mention in its current form

Do you believe that it's beneficial for representatives to have previous experience in government or politics?

No

What do you perceive to be the United States' greatest challenges as a nation over the next decade?

No more than 3 terms if Chairing a Committee - 2 terms otherwise

What are your thoughts on term limits?

The US House has term limits - they are called ELECTIONS every 2 years. Our Founders never envisioned career politicians that never return to the public sector

Do you believe that compromise is necessary or desirable for policymaking?

NO - the establishment GOP is playing by the old rules - there is o compromise with the current left. We are at a crossroad in history.

The Constitution says that all bills for raising revenue must originate in the House. What role would this power play in your priorities if elected?

I would increase Tariffs 3% on EVERY imported good into the USA - as our Founders envisioned. Taxes just be cut to a 15% flat tax on household income in excess of $100,000
