In their own words

Who are you? Tell us about yourself.

My name is DeVante Hill, and I am a U.S. Army veteran, entrepreneur, ordained minister, nonprofit founder, and candidate for Congress in Tennessee’s Fifth District. My life has been shaped by a commitment to service and a belief that leadership is about improving the lives of others. Growing up between Memphis and rural West Tennessee gave me firsthand insight into the challenges families face, from economic hardship and access to healthcare to educational opportunity and public safety. Those experiences inspired me to dedicate my career to building stronger communities.

Through my nonprofit, One Memphis One Vision, I have worked to mentor young people, support families, and connect communities with resources. I have also advocated for criminal justice reform, workforce development, financial inclusion, and policies that expand opportunity for working families. My work has brought together community leaders, businesses, and government to solve problems through collaboration.

I am running for Congress because I believe every community deserves a representative who listens, serves, and delivers results. My campaign is focused on strengthening our economy, supporting small businesses and farmers, expanding access to affordable healthcare, investing in infrastructure, and ensuring every Tennessean has the opportunity to thrive. No matter the role I serve in, my mission remains the same: lead with integrity, serve with compassion, and leave every community stronger than I found

Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?

I’m not running for Congress to build a political career. I’m running to solve problems. From serving as a U.S. Army veteran and minister to leading community initiatives, my life has been rooted in service. I believe every family deserves a representative who listens first, shows up consistently, and works across differences to deliver results. Whether you’re a Democrat, Republican, or Independent, I will fight for every community across Tennessee’s Fifth District with integrity, accessibility, and accountability.Working families deserve more than speeches. They deserve results. My campaign is focused on lowering the cost of living by supporting small businesses, protecting family farms, strengthening manufacturing, expanding workforce opportunities, investing in infrastructure, and improving access to affordable healthcare. I believe economic growth should benefit the people who work hard every day, not just those with the loudest voices or the biggest bank accounts.I was born in Tipton County, raised in Shelby County, served in the Tennessee National Guard, and have spent my career working alongside communities across our state. I understand both rural and urban Tennessee because I’ve lived and served in both. My campaign is built on one simple belief: District 5 can thrive when every county is heard, every community is valued, and every person has a fair opportunity to succeed. Send Hill to the Hill.

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?

I am most passionate about policies that expand opportunity and strengthen communities. That includes growing our economy through support for small businesses, manufacturing, agriculture, and workforce development; protecting consumers from predatory lending; improving access to affordable healthcare and childcare; investing in infrastructure and rural communities; and advancing public safety through accountability and prevention. I also believe in creating second chances through fair employment opportunities because strong families, thriving local economies, and safe communities are all connected. My goal is to champion practical solutions that improve everyday life for working families across Tennessee.
