Background

David Wood's career experience includes working as a computer programmer.[1]

In their own words

Who are you? Tell us about yourself.

I’m a retired computer programmer enjoying life in Westminster Colorado with my wife Betsy and our greyhound dog Rafa.

I want to provide voters the freedom to choose a voice in Congress that would trust their ability to live their lives as they think best without Washington dictating how they should do it.

Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?

Stop being the world’s policeman. Bring our troops home from the 800 bases where they are deployed in 80 countries. No more military intervention in foreign lands. No more endless wars. No more veterans who come home with PTSD or don’t come home at all.

Stopping the overspending on conventional weapons only used in foreign lands will enable reducing our bloated military budget which will reduce the tax burden on hard-working Americans.

We need to focus our military’s budget only on defending us from those who would attack us and against the unconventional means at their disposal.Stop the shameful deporting of peaceful hard-working immigrants and increase the number of immigration judges so immigrants can get timely due process in applying for citizenship.Stop tariffs and other Federal interventions in our economy that only help special interests and make life less affordable for the rest of us.

Stop Congress’s inflationary practices which have the highest impact on those who are most vulnerable: those of modest and fixed incomes like those in retirement.

Housing is less and less affordable because of costly regulations thought to be in our best interest.

The road to less affordable living is paved with good intentions.

We need “separation of economy and state”!

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?

We need congressional action to remove all “loopholes” that allow presidential executive overreach. A president’s actions should be constrained to those in the constitution.

We need Free Trade. Imposing tariffs on foreign goods raises the cost of raw materials and manufactured products, shifting those higher expenses onto us, as struggling consumers.

Government debt unfairly forces people of the future to pay for services enjoyed by the people of the present.

Decades of deficits have made today’s interest expenses on the national debt higher than the country’s defense spending.

Pass the balanced budget amendment bill; we should never use debt to finance federal spending except during an actual congressionally declared war.

What characteristics or principles are most important for an elected official?

An elected official needs to deliver on the promises they made to get elected.

A congress person needs to ignore the special interests and their lobbyists and focus on what all their constituents need.

What do you perceive to be the United States' greatest challenges as a nation over the next decade?

We need to respect each others differences and have great freedom of choice in how we live our lives.

We need to realize that government isn’t always the answer to all our problems.

And that when we do need government, the more local the better.
