In their own words

Who are you? Tell us about yourself.

I am a husband and father of two children. My wife is a special education teacher. We built our home and farm where we raised our two children, who both went to the public schools in our town.

For my work history, I have been a certified organic farmer for the past 40 years. I have been a college debate coach for over 40 years. When our children were little, I was a stay at home dad. Also, I went to law school and after graduating set up a law clinic that served people who were in the mental health system with their civil legal needs.

When it comes to politics, this is my second time running for the State Senate in District 8. I have been active at the State House testifying over 100 times on many issues, especially in support of strong public schools and the state living up to its Constitutional duty to provide funding to the public schools.

Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?

Bring civility to politics. We need to listen to each other and work together to put in place long term solutions to the issues facing our state. An economy that works everyone. Everyone deserves a chance at a good education, and a living wage. We need to invest in our people and our rural communities.Strong public schools. The State of NH ranks last (50th) in the US in terms of the percentage of funding it provides to the public schools from the state level. The state provides only 25% which is half the national average. If the state does its job, this would lead to property tax relief and allow towns to fund the other essential local services that we need.

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?

Education including special education, health care including mental health care, voting rights, the environment, civil rights, child care, food assistance, and an economy that works for everyone. We need to make our state a place where young people can settle down and make a life, and senior citizens can retire and live with dignity.

What organizations or individuals have endorsed your campaign?

AFT-NH (American Federation of Teachers)

Moms Rising Seal of Approval for Child Care

Mental Health Now

Increase the state funding of the public schools to guarantee every child the opportunity for a good education, as well as the local property tax relief that would result.

I look up to my parents. They were truly good people, who I admire and respect.

What characteristics or principles are most important for an elected official?

The essential characteristics of an elected official are integrity, kindness and a willingness to listen to others and work together.

What was your very first job? How long did you have it?
