David Johnson

David Johnson earned a high school diploma from Madison Southern High School. He earned a bachelor's degree from Eastern Kentucky University in 2005 and a graduate degree from the University of the Cumberlands in 2025. His career experience includes working as an educator.[1]

Who are you? Tell us about yourself.

David Johnson, a lifelong Kentuckian, is deeply committed to service and has dedicated his career to supporting families, schools, and local communities in Eastern Kentucky. As a public school teacher, David Johnson works with students with disabilities and has taught in both Madison County and Estill County Schools. His strong personal ties to the region, with grandparents from Estill County and an upbringing in Madison County, enhance his connection to the community he serves.

Through his work in special education, David Johnson sees firsthand how state decisions affect classrooms, healthcare access, and family stability. He believes that strong public schools, affordable healthcare, and transparent government are essential to fostering healthy communities.

In 2020, David Johnson played a key role in supporting the passage of Kentucky’s Insulin Copay Cap, which has helped thousands of Kentuckians afford life-saving medication. He also values historic preservation and recognizes the service of former law enforcement officers who have protected their communities.

Having graduated from Eastern Kentucky University and continued his education at the University of the Cumberlands, David Johnson lives and works in the community he serves. As he campaigns for the Kentucky General Assembly with his initiative, Johnson for State Representative, he is committed to listening, showing up, and working year-round for the people of Powell, Estill, and Madison Counties.

Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?

I want people to know that like many of our fellow neighbors-I work paycheck to paycheck like the majority of this district.I support public schools and pensions of all State employees and stand against turning them into 401k programs.There are many needs in this district that includes water supply, school facilities, and funding for first responders for payroll and equipment.

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?

I'm passionate about Education that includes students with disabilities, public works that includes water supply and roads for example, and funding first responders with adequate pay with proper equipment.
