In their own words

Who are you? Tell us about yourself.

I'm Dave Fournier, an employee-benefits attorney that represents union pension and health plans, and apprenticeship training programs. My job comes down to one principle: when you're managing someone else's money, you owe them loyalty and prudence. That's called fiduciary duty, and it's missing from the Statehouse.

I graduated from St. John's Jesuit, Baldwin Wallace College, and put myself through the University of Toledo College of Law at night while working full-time. My wife and I are raising three kids in Whitehouse in the Anthony Wayne School District. I became involved with our school board, which showed me how decisions in Columbus are failing our public schools and shifting costs onto local property taxpayers.

I'm not a career politician. I'm running because the people of this district deserve a representative who manages public dollars responsibly and in the best interest of the people they're supposed to help, not the people in charge of spending them.

Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?

Public dollars are a public trust. Ohio's universal voucher program is funneling billions in taxpayer money to private schools with no accountability, no transparency, and no obligation to serve every child. I'll fight to ensure that public dollars are managed responsibly and in the interest of the families and communities they're supposed to help.Property taxpayers deserve relief, not blame. Ohio homeowners are shouldering an increasingly unfair burden while Columbus shifts costs downward and pretends it's a local problem. I'll work to fix the structural failures in our school funding and tax systems that keep forcing levies higher and squeezing families on fixed incomes out of their homes.Working families deserve affordability. Healthcare costs are crushing Ohio families and small businesses while insurers and pharmacy middlemen profit from a system designed to keep prices hidden. I'll push for transparency and meaningful reforms that put families ahead of stockholders.

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?

Workforce development. I work with apprenticeship training programs that give people real skills and real careers without a four-year degree or six figures of debt. Ohio should be investing in these alternatives to traditional 4-year degree programs.

Government transparency. Whether it's voucher dollars flowing to private schools with no reporting requirements or legislation drafted to benefit campaign donors, the public deserves to know where their money goes and who benefits.

Workers' rights. Ohio workers built this state and deserve leaders who will protect collective bargaining and push back on legislation designed to weaken workers' rights.
