In their own words
Who are you? Tell us about yourself.
I represent the NH Classic Liberal Party (https://nh-clp.org). Many people remember what Liberal Values are, but feel they've fallen by the wayside: pluralism, tolerance, the Rule of Law, the Bill of Rights, human dignity, free markets... These are our New Hampshire Values.
I've lived in Amherst since 2010. We live on a quiet property, with woods, fields, barns, and critters. I love everything about where and how we live.
My husband and I have been part of the civic fabric since we first arrived. I chaired the Conservation Commission, served on the Souhegan Advisory Board, and was a high school coach for 10 years, and John is in his 11th year on the SelectBoard. New Hampshire is where my family has been rooted for hundreds of years, with various branches coming and going. These roots allow for a deep understanding of and appreciation for our state's history and culture.
We're different here in NH. That's a feature, not a bug.
Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?
The Promise of America is that we can choose our paths; our faith, our spouse, our work, where we live... and as long as our choices aren't harming someone else on their path, it's nobody's business. And it's especially not the government's business.
You do you.Tolerance of others and how they choose to live their lives is fundamental to our own ability to live ours. If we want our freedom, we have to extend that tolerance to others so they will extend it to us.We need limited, fiscally responsible government. Government doing its job is fine. Government doing MY job or YOUR job is not.
There are things only government can do. Those things should operate competently. But when it begins encroaching on the things we can or should do, government starts limiting our paths... managing our choices... picking winners and lowers.
Governments can't guarantee outcomes; only solutions.
Do what needs doing, fund those necessary things so they work right, and then get the government out of the way so we can live our lives.
What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?
Housing costs are completely out of control. But while just building willy-nilly will certainly increase the housing stock, we have MORE than enough 4br colonials. What we NEED are senior residences and starter homes.
We can get more of what we need by incentivizing conservation development w/ clustering and increased density bonuses. Preserve the natural beauty we all love, while simultaneously encouraging smaller footprints and lower-cost housing.
We also need to reduce the barriers keeping people from achieving the American promise. Reduce or eliminate the regulations that are legacies of exclusion, that show up in our occupation licensing and 1980s zoning.
