In their own words
Who are you? Tell us about yourself.
I am a legislator that cares passionately about issues that affect the economic stability and mobility of Georgians. My policy work centers on enterpreneurship opportunities, local economic development, job creation and access and access to capital. I was born in Georgia--raised in Decatur GA by 2 business owners. I reside in Lithonia, GA and own a law firm/investment advisory firm as a practicing securities attorney for the last 19 years. I believe and have served with that leadership is service and that means listening, engaging and showing up--which I have done the last 16 years I have been in the House and will continue to do.
Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?
Economic Sustainability & Upward Mobility. This has been my No. 1 platform since being elected. My goal is to always make sure my District constituents have access to the resources, including finances, they need to take care of themselves, their families and their communities AND to continue to realize their American dream (whatever that may be). I will continue to advocate for local economic development as a member of the Economic Development and Tourism committee.Technology, Infrastructure and Entrepreneurship. As a member of the Technology committee, specifically assigned to the AI subcommittee, I am always looking forward to leverage technology to its greatest good for constituents in the District. This means training and information on AI, demanding more of data centers that use our resources in the name of technology and supporting and loudly advocating for enterpreneurs in the District.Voting/Maternal Health Rights. Voting rights have systematically been under attack since I was elected in 2010. I have spoken out against any attempts to dilute the voting power of ANY historically disadvantaged group. Additionally, abortion rights are healthcare rights. As I did when I was a fierce advocate against the "heartbeat" bill in 2018, staging a protest on the floor and creating a whole suite of counter bills dealing with mens reproductive rights that went viral, I will continue to propose legislation that supports pregnant women and attacks any attempt to control womens' reproductive rights.
What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?
See above. Anything that involves "pocketbook" issues for people to take care of themselves and their families and communities I am passionate about. Many of these issues span across different subjects from healthcare (being able to afford healthcare) to taxes (property, sales etc.).
Who do you look up to? Whose example would you like to follow, and why?
My parents. They serve. They serve well and they serve always and any chance they get.
What characteristics or principles are most important for an elected official?
Honesty
Communication
Reliability
What do you believe are the core responsibilities for someone elected to this office?
To communicate with constituents about what is going on at the state level, provide excellent constituent services to help with their every day issues and to vote on legislation according to the District and propose helpful legislation
What legacy would you like to leave?
I would like to leave a legacy of one in which constituents understand their legislator is only a call, email, text, inbox message on social media away from listening to them. We are accessible. I am accessible.
What was your very first job? How long did you have it?
Keeping kids at a summer day camp. It only lasted the summer but I was so effective, they laid off 90% of the staff and kept me 2 weeks longer than they were supposed to.
What is something that has been a struggle in your life?
To help as many people as I can with the resources that I have.
What do you believe is the ideal relationship between the governor and state legislature?
The ideal relationship is one in which there is open communication at all times, particularly during the session. This is both on a collective basis but even more so on an individual basis.
What do you perceive to be your state's greatest challenges over the next decade?
Ending gerrymandered maps.
Do you believe that compromise is necessary or desirable for policymaking?
It is necessary ONLY to the extent it doesn't compromise the District and its values or my own personally.

What was the first historical event that happened in your lifetime that you remember?
