Who are you? Tell us about yourself.

I am a homegrown Wilsonian. As a Captain in the North Carolina National Guard, I am deeply devoted to serving my state and community. I serve as the Board Chair for the Wilson County Department of Social Services and have served on the boards of over ten community organizations because I believe that service is an obligation we all have. I am the former Chair of the Wilson County Democratic Party and believe that we have to protect the middle class. I am running to protect the interest of hardworking families and to fight for education.

Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?

Affordable Healthcare

Protecting access to quality and affordable healthcare is essential to ensuring that all families have what they need to be successful. In a rural county, like Wilson County, access to healthcare is a top priority. Often times, these are the places that are most at-risk to losing quality healthcare options. I am running to reverse that trend and to ensure that quality healthcare is attainable for all.Education

Education is a top priority for me because quality education is a responsibility that we have to our children. At a time when public education is being attacked by profit motivated actors, I believe that we need to invest in our children by supporting our qualified educators, expanding pre-K access and supporting community-based schools. As a product of Wilson County Schools, I know the power of a good, public education.Economic Opportunity

Expanding economic opportunity is critical for this district. I will fight for quality job opportunities and work to expand small business opportunities. When I speak with students in classrooms, I hear about their dreams and witness their entrepreneurial spirit. We must make sure that those opportunities exist in this district.

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?

Pre-K Education

We know that children getting the start that they need is the most important thing we can do for their education. I will work to expand pre-K education so that we are investing in our children at an early age.

Who do you look up to? Whose example would you like to follow, and why?

My grandfather is the person that I have always looked up to. He worked at Bridgestone Firestone for thirty years after serving in the United States Air Force. He was an honest family man that was full of integrity. He was a man that was comfortable behind the scenes but was always making small impacts and improvements to make things better.

What do you believe are the core responsibilities for someone elected to this office?

I believe that service to community is a core responsibility for someone seeking this office. I do not believe in a model in which people run for office before serving their community. I am proud of my public service record and my service to my community.
