In their own words

Who are you? Tell us about yourself.

I live in Allyn, Washington where I grew up. I am married to my wife Dinah (for 35 years now) and we have 4 children and 7 grandchildren. We volunteer throughout the district, lending a hand wherever we can.

In 1987 I began my firefighting career as a volunteer firefighter. As a teenager I was one of the youngest EMT’s in the state of Washington and was allowed to respond to calls from high school. I worked for Central Mason Fire and EMS for over 30 years before retiring.

My parents were both school bus drivers before working for the South Kitsap school district and the state. I enjoyed riding the bus route with my mom. I also sold booster buttons to help fund the transportation department that they worked for when times were tough. My family owned a towing business which I helped out with at a young age. I know what it is like to struggle to make ends meet.

As a firefighter I have seen many people on their worst day, and it inspired me to do more for them. This culminated in running to represent them in the 35th legislative district. I have helped countless people work through government red tape to get results. I'm passionate about protecting private property rights and have passed bills to help survivors of violent crimes get justice.

From removing the statute of limitations on felony sex crimes against children to passing the HOPE card to help those with protection orders stay safe, I'll never stop looking for opportunities to help people.

Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?

Affordability

We are losing businesses in our state at an alarming rate. With them go jobs and opportunities. Our gas tax is the second highest in the nation and is passed to consumers when they purchase transported goods. It is also taking a bite out of paychecks, retirement funds and savings as people fill their tanks for everyday tasks. We also have a crime epidemic that is raising insurance rates and closing businesses.

This can all be turned around quickly. We need to be a friendly economically stable place that welcomes business. We can lower our gas tax. We can enforce our laws when crimes are committed and deter future crimes.Protecting the vulnerable

Many in our state have been the victims of crime. The courts have a tendency to give the perpetrator a second chance. This happens after the victim has navigated the court system in some cases for years at a huge expense. We need to work on solutions that give those that have experienced crime a stronger voice. I have worked to eliminate the statute of limitations on felony sex crimes and worked hard to pass the HOPE card for survivors with protection orders. The more I do the more I am made aware that more needs to be done. I won't stop until we get justice and resources that are more than words on paper. We need to hold those that injure others accountable.Bring Business to Washington

We have a looming budget crisis, and it's growing due to the income tax on millionaires. This tax sounds like only the wealthy are going to pay it. The hard truth is that the wealthy are leaving, taking their businesses with them. This represents living wage jobs. It doesn't stop there either. When businesses leave, the businesses that supported them lose too. From coffee shops to airplane parts manufacturers the damage hits everyone at some level. With the loss in revenue to the state the budget deficit continues to grow, and taxes go up.

We can turn that around by creating opportunities for business growth. We can encourage business to invest in our state, grow our economy and lower your taxes.
