In their own words

Who are you? Tell us about yourself.

Cody is a lifelong Granite Stater and former campaign manager. He grew up on a dirt road in Canterbury and is running for State Rep because he believes the New Hampshire he grew up in is worth fighting for. While backyard skeet shooting and dirt biking certainly helped define his childhood, what really left a lasting impression was how hard everyone around him worked and how members of the community lifted each other up in pursuit of their dreams.

Cody wants New Hampshire to continue being a place where our youth can put down roots and start a family, and where our seniors can remain an active part of our community. After watching people he grew up with leave town due to high costs, his own grandmother struggle to find affordable housing, and hundreds of voters he spoke with as a campaign manager feel crushed by their property taxes, he decided to run for office to help preserve the character of dirt-road New Hampshire for generations to come.

Cody believes elected officials have often neglected their duty to listen to listen to every constituent, especially when they might disagree. He is therefore committed to bringing an open mind to tasks like reforming public school funding, incentivizing greater housing options, and investing in more robust elder care for our seniors.

Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?

I am only 24 years old, yet I have watched the culture of small-town New Hampshire change considerably in my lifetime. Many of these changes have resulted from rising property taxes squeezing communities and high housing costs pushing youth out. This has occurred because the Legislature continues to downshift considerable costs (especially those for public schools) to local governments by cutting state revenue sources. I am determined to protect the character of our small towns going forward by ensuring the state sufficiently supports our needs.Rather than handing down strict mandates, the state government should be a partner and resource to our local governments by providing housing incentives. Local control is a crucial part of the New Hampshire way of life, and towns should have flexibility to increase housing access in a way that fits their character. The state should use levers like the local-state Meals and Rooms Tax revenue sharing rate and a grant program for homeowners who want to build in-law apartments for their immediate family members to encourage towns to diversify housing options.New Hampshire has an aging population; thus, we must be able to accommodate rising elder care demand in a way that keeps our seniors in their homes and active in our communities. We need to increase the Medicaid reimbursement rate for at-home care so we can develop the workforce necessary to look after our elders and give them the dignity to stay in their homes.

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?

I am personally passionate about finding ways to ease property tax burdens without a sales or income tax, fairly funding public schools, increasing Medicaid reimbursements for home care, and building a political process that makes everyone feel they have a voice.
