Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?
Across the United States, housing costs are skyrocketing, making it so that most people can’t afford to buy a home. There are many reasons for this, and Chuck wants to tackle all.
Home builders get rich off of huge homes, rather than right-sized housing for all life stages. Big houses are more expensive to buy, repair, and heat, meaning that costs keep hitting a home buyer again and again. Let's incentivize starter homes, perfect for young families or downsizing older families, while looking at home legislation that makes it easier to repair houses and improving permitting for other solutions like ADUs.
Let's also ensure that everyone that works can afford a home, and ensure wages keep up with costs. All work has dignity.Southern Maryland has a unique combination of agricultural expertise, technical savvy, and biodiversity that positions us to become a center of practical innovation for the East Coast. Well-planned policies will strengthen our agricultural roots, attract new business, and provide high-paying opportunities for all.
Much of our area’s growth comes from supporting the Patuxent River Naval Air Station. The base brings important industries to our area, but it’s also a single point of failure. Let's look for opportunities to incentivize ‘defense adjacent,’ multiple-use innovation, and cross-training, to make our local economy more resilient, and also more resistant, to industrial growth that will destroy our resources and natural beauty. In Maryland, we all do better when we all do better. We want our neighbors’ children to be successful and productive, and will champion laws that provide support to our families and community.
We believe that the foundation of a strong and thriving Maryland economy is families who have enough food. Universal school lunches and agricultural partnerships with local farms can bring better food quality and food security to our families.
Let's also look for ways to reduce the cost of child care through solutions that have worked in other states, such as shared spaces, partnerships, and state funding.
Finally, let's collaborate with local care providers to build community-centered medical care that puts people over profit.
What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?
In addition to our campaign's major focus areas of jobs, housing, and family support, we are especially focused on data privacy and environmental conservation.
Data is the new gold, and management of a person's data carries great risks in todays society. As a nationally known data geek, Chuck is committed to strengthening Maryland's consumer protection laws, their rights to data privacy, and to holding businesses and industry accountable for abusing or mismanaging the use of people's data.
Even though data may be the lifeblood of society, it all exists on this one planet, and we don't have another. Chuck is committed to ensuring we all have clean water, breathable air, and we leave our children a thriving planet.
