In their own words
Who are you? Tell us about yourself.
I was born in Louisville and raised in Crestwood, where I was a Girl Scout, ran cross country at Oldham County High School (Class of 1988), and was named a Governor's Scholar.
I loved reading, camping with my Girl Scout Troop, summers on the Ohio River, playing piano and clarinet, and running track and cross country. I met my husband, Dean Furman, while in college and we married after I returned home for medical school at UofL, where I earned my MD and completed my residency and fellowship.
As a Geriatrics and Palliative Care physician, I've cared for countless families in our community and served in leadership roles at UofL and the VA Hospital. After completing a Congressional Fellowship in Washington, DC to advise on older adults issues, I want to make a difference in Frankfort.
Dean and I raised our two children in Oldham County, where I coached at Saint John United Methodist and volunteered as a Girl Scout troop leader, and now serve as a member of Prospect City Council.
Caring for Kentuckians as a physician, professor, and public servant, I am now running for State Senate to further my commitment to fighting for healthier families, safer communities, and a better future for all Kentuckians.
