In their own words

Who are you? Tell us about yourself.

Chris Mann has dedicated his life to serving and protecting Kansas communities. Chris began his career as a police officer at just 21 years old. But while on a routine traffic stop, Chris was hit at 50 mph by a drunk driver, ending his career in uniform. Chris knew he still wanted to serve his community, so he went back to law school and became a prosecutor in the Wyandotte County District Attorney’s office. In this role, he handled everything from traffic tickets to DUIs to murders. He went on to prosecute for the state as a Senior Staff Attorney with the Kansas Securities Commission, where he protected consumers by holding white-collar criminals accountable. Today, he represents victims of drunk driving in his private law practice, fighting to ensure victims get the justice they deserve. Outside of his law work, Chris is on the board of Lawrence Habitat for Humanity, Just Food – a local food pantry dedicated to reducing food insecurity in Douglas County –, and FRST – an organization that provides peer support services to first responders with PTSD.

Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?

Chris will bring the Attorney General’s office back to the basics of public service and public safety by ensuring law enforcement and prosecutors have the resources they need to protect their communities. While traveling the state, Chris has heard time and again from local law enforcement that their calls for support from the Attorney General’s office go unanswered, or they’re told no. As Attorney General, Chris will pick up the phone when local law enforcement call for help so Kansans are protected and bad actors are held accountable.Kansans are losing tens of millions of dollars each year through fraud, and these scams are only getting worse. Chris will bring his experience as a Senior Staff Attorney with the Kansas Securities Commission, investigating and prosecuting fraud across the state, to the Attorney General’s office. Chris will work to strengthen education and training programs so community members and law enforcement have the resources they need to identify, investigate, and prosecute scams.Chris will work with partners across the state to address the rising level of violence in domestic violence cases. In the past year alone, Kansas has lost two officers while responding to domestic violence calls. As a former police officer and prosecutor, Chris has seen the danger of domestic violence firsthand and has successfully put away several violent abusers, including those who put children in harm's way. While traveling across Kansas, Chris has seen that many shelters are underfunded and overcrowded, limiting the number of Kansans they can help. As Attorney General, Chris will work with local partners to ensure victims of domestic violence have a place to go where they can escape the violence.

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?

As a father, I’m protective of my children, and I’m concerned about the emergence of AI chatbots and the presence of predators online. AI chatbots are often unregulated in their interactions with children, too often with deadly consequences. These online chatbots often aim to create an emotional bond with children by acting as a friend, romantic partner, or even as a therapist. Online predators have also used emotional bonds to target and harm Kansas kids. As Attorney General, I’ll fight to protect our children, including by working with AI and social media companies to ensure guardrails are in place to protect our children from unregulated chatbots and predators online.
