In their own words
Who are you? Tell us about yourself.
Chris has spent all of his life in Appalachia. Growing up in southwestern Virgina, he watched his community suffer when the furniture and textile factories closed their doors. In 1991 he moved to Tennessee. He has spent his professional career supporting various manufacturers in their efforts to remain competitive in a global economy. He watched his dad get up around 3:00 am five days a week and work a bread route for the next twelve to fifteen hours. His mother worked in textiles and automotive and in both instances saw her earnings stop when both industries ceased production. The common denominator for his parents was the spawning of trickledown economics in the 1980s. As he watched his parents and neighbor after neighbor continue to lose employment and suffer from stagnant wages while working at a gas station, the more he disapproved of a trickledown economy. He has spent much of his adult life railing against policies that promote an economy that benefits a few at the expense of many. He knows the hard work that many East Tennesseans and Americans put in day after day in agriculture, construction, education, hospitality, manufacturing and retail. He knows that unemployment only tells part of the struggle of East Tennesseans. An equally detrimental problem is the underemployment realized by many across the region and nation as a result of stagnant wages which have descended on the working class as trickledown economics continues to build wealth but not for all.
Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?
Jobs, but not just any jobs, are a critical driver of local economies. America must restore its manufacturing base with sustainable and responsible manufacturing. Chris will always prioritize legislation that supports reshoring industries that have abandoned the working class. Strong wages open the door to additional opportunities in communities such as construction, retail and hospitality provide goods and services.Healthcare is best when left up to patients and providers. Insurers are not in the examination rooms, they don't get lab results and they sure as heck don't know the patient. Lacking that information, why would they be approving or rejecting any treatment a provider would prescribe. Chris will always support patients' rights to pursue the treatment that they and their provider deem appropriate. Simultaneously, he will sponsor legislation to lower insurance premiums for those that need improved access.America is unaffordable for the largest part of its population. Housing, energy, groceries, and transportation costs are skyrocketing. These are fueled by tariffs (taxes) that were unconstitutionally imposed on Americans and a war that we should have never taken part. Chris will support and present legislation that seeks to reduce the burden of living in the United States by abolishing the tariffs and ending the war.
