In their own words
Who are you? Tell us about yourself.
I am Cheryl Hilton, a longtime Southington resident, REALTOR®, community advocate, educator, and candidate for State Representative in Connecticut’s 80th District, representing Wolcott and part of Southington. My career and community service have centered on helping people find opportunity, navigate challenges, and have a voice in decisions that affect their lives. I believe public service begins with listening. I am running to bring practical, responsive, community-focused leadership to Hartford while remaining accessible to the people I represent.
Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?
Listen First. Represent Everyone.
I believe good representation begins with listening. Wolcott and Southington residents deserve a representative who is accessible, understands their concerns, and brings their voices to Hartford. I am running to represent the entire 80th District—not simply one party or one group. I will listen, show up, do the work, and look for practical solutions that put the needs of our communities first.Affordability. Opportunity. Strong Communities.
Families, seniors, homeowners, and small businesses are feeling the pressure of rising costs. My experience in real estate, housing, and community advocacy has shown me how decisions about housing, taxes, education, and economic opportunity affect everyday life. I want Connecticut to be a place where families can afford to live, seniors can remain in the communities they helped build, businesses can grow, and the next generation can see a future here.Community Before Politics
Strong communities are built when people work together. I believe we can disagree without becoming divided and find common ground around the issues that matter to our families. As State Representative, I will bring people together, work across differences, and focus on results for Wolcott and Southington. This campaign is about service, relationships, and making sure the 80th District has a strong voice at the Capitol.
What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?
I am particularly passionate about affordability, housing, education, economic opportunity, support for seniors and families, and strong local communities. My professional and community experience has shown me that these issues are interconnected. Good public policy should help people build stable lives, create opportunities for the next generation, support local businesses, protect our quality of life, and ensure residents have a meaningful voice in decisions affecting their communities.
What organizations or individuals have endorsed your campaign?
I am honored to have received the endorsement of the Connecticut AFL-CIO and State Representative Larry Butler. I value these endorsements because they reflect a shared commitment to working people, strong communities, and effective public service.
