Background

Pingree was born on April 2, 1955, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She earned her B.A. from the College of the Atlantic in 1979 after having previously attended the University of Southern Maine in 1983. Pingree was a member of the Maine Senate from 1992 to 2000 and was Senate majority leader from 1996 to 2000. Before her political career, Pingree worked as a farmer and businesswoman in North Haven, Maine.[1]
