Who are you? Tell us about yourself.
I have lived in Kent County most of my life. I attended college as a single mom and received my BSN from Grand Valley State University 2009. Over the last 17 years I have served my community in a variety of nursing roles including inpatient acute care, rehab, long-term care, and now as a community hospice nurse. Prior to my nursing career I worked in food service, spent several years as a factory worker, and even managed a home daycare while attending college. My experiences have given me a unique perspective, and I recognize that access to healthcare is not equal for all. I have personally witnessed and experienced the health disparities within my own families, and it is my goal to fight for a universal healthcare, so no one has to choose between their family's health and bankruptcy
Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?
You shouldn't have to be a Millionaire to have a voice. The Green Party does not depend on corporations or Supper PACs and I will never accept donations intended to pressure me to vote against my conscience. The cost of housing, healthcare, childcare, gas and groceries are climbing, but the national minimum wage remains at $7.25 / hr . The richest nation on earth tells us that they can't afford to guarantee more than poverty wages, and in the same breath cuts the social safety nets that keep our neighbors fed and housed. We must hold corporations accountable to pay a living wage. We must demand that the rich pay their fair share in taxes, and that government stops spending our hard-earned tax dollars on fancy ballrooms and unnecessary wars.Americans have the right to know and hear from all candidates, not just the 2 that have the most money to spend on their campaigns. The majority of Americans no longer believe that the 2 major parties have their best interest in mind, and we need to put pressure on the media to better represent our minor parties, and independent candidates. You deserve better!
What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?
I initially became active in politics due to the healthcare crisis in our nation, but healthcare is so much more than just having insurance. It's affordable food, housing, transportation, tuition, childcare, mental health, critical resources for our veterans, and so much more. Trump's budget and staffing cuts have not only limited our capacity to track and respond to infectious diseases that are resurging but has weekended our soft power amongst other nations as well. If there's one thing my years in nursing has taught me, is that you don't need to know everything to know where and how to find the answers. Together we can build a better tomorrow.
