Background

Charles Van Morgan was born in Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia. Van Morgan earned a bachelor's degree from Tennessee Wesleyan College in 1996, a graduate degree from the University of Tennessee in 2001, and a J.D. from Nashville School of Law in 2015. His career experience includes owning a logistics and transportation business and working as a police officer and trooper.[1]

I'm Charles Van Morgan, the son of a widow from South Knoxville Tennessee with no brothers. I've learned how to fight bullies all my life out of necessity. I and have the skills, life lessions education and training necessary to fight and win for you.

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?

The Government serving the people.

Who do you look up to? Whose example would you like to follow, and why?

Jesus Christ.

Is there a book, essay, film, or something else you would recommend to someone who wants to understand your political philosophy?

The Bible. Love your neighbor as yourself.

What characteristics or principles are most important for an elected official?

Serving the people and making their lives better by getting their will accomplished.

What qualities do you possess that you believe would make you a successful officeholder?

I'm a fighter for the Good of others

What do you believe are the core responsibilities for someone elected to this office?

Getting the Government to serve and follow the will and needs of the people of Tennessee.

What legacy would you like to leave?

Made the State of Tennessee a better place for Tennesseans now and our children and grandchildren.

What is the first historical event that happened in your lifetime that you remember? How old were you at the time?

Death of Elvis Presley. About 13.

What was your very first job? How long did you have it?

News paper delivery. About 5 years.

What is your favorite book? Why?

The Bible. It's God's Holy Word purified, tried in a furnace of earth 7 times.

If you could be any fictional character, who would you want to be?

Superman.

What was the last song that got stuck in your head?

Amazing Grace.

What is something that has been a struggle in your life?

Fighting public corruption for others good.

A governor is the top executive authority in his or her state. What does that mean do you?

Responsible for the day to to functioning of the Government serving the people and preparing for the future for our children and grandchildren.

Governors have many responsibilities, which vary from state to state. Which of those do you personally consider the most important in your state?

Public safety.

Different states require governors to have different degrees of responsibility for the state budgeting process. If it were your choice, what do you believe is the appropriate degree of gubernatorial involvement with this process in your state?

Full control vetted by the people of Tennessee.

In most states, governors have the power to make line-item vetoes. If that is true in your state, what would be your philosophy for how and when to use this power?

If it substantially goes against the will of the people.

If the governor's office in your state does not have the line-item veto power, do you believe it should? Why or why not?

Tennessee does.

What do you believe is the ideal relationship between the governor and state legislature?

The legislature should follow the Governors lead.

What do you love most about your state?

The people.

What do you perceive to be your state's greatest challenges over the next decade?

Corruption that has lead to a host of horrific circumstances that are horrifying to Tennesseans and divesting to future Tennesseans.
