In their own words

Who are you? Tell us about yourself.

I am a native Oklahoman who has lived in Moore for 50 years and am recently retired from 42 years of public education where I was a Teacher, Asst. Principal, Principal, and Superintendent. The daughter of an Army Veteran, born and raised in Lawton which is home to the Fort Sill Army Post, I attended public school and college there. I'm married to an Air Force Veteran's son, have a daughter and grandson, and was appointed Principal of Tinker Elementary for 13 years because of my military background.

After retiring I began volunteering with groups that support my beliefs, such as safe storage of guns, and eventually volunteered at the OKDEMS State Office and the Cleveland County Dems Office where I served as Secretary for a few years.

Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?

I want Public Education to be able to provide schools that educate and serve the children and families in their area.Affordable living should be a right of every working Oklahoman. There's a symbiotic relationship between worker/consumer and owner/business. Each depends on the other to keep a steady flow between each. Right now the worker/consumer is at too great a disadvantage to be able to work a 40 hour week and earn enough money to trade with the owner/business. Families need to work but also need time to raise their children, enjoy life, and exist beyond just survival.Consistent access to healthcare helps prevent major medical illnesses as one grows older. Health insurance companies limit what a medical professional can prescribe for their patients even though they are not medical professionals themselves. This lets the insurance companies make a profit which in itself limits the service the payee receives.

I believe healthcare is a basic human right which is provided to current military members and veterans as it should be. Other groups, such as Congress, receive subsidized healthcare. All Americans should be eligible to receive affordable healthcare through subsidies, employee matched programs, or through various models of nationally run programs that provide basic care.

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?

I'm passionate about Education Reform in Oklahoma. Our state has gone from 17th in the national rankings to 50th since 2011. As a 42 year retiree of public education I've been a teacher, assistant principal, principal, and school district superintendent watching our state's education system wither as funding was gradually decreased. The Oklahoma Tribes gave money to the state to help fund these losses. Instead of making it additional revenue the state government added it to the revenue pool and then subtracted the same amount the tribes were giving. In other words a net gain of zero dollars. I believe there should be a state plan attached to this money so that we can gauge the effectiveness and pivot as needed.
