In their own words
Who are you? Tell us about yourself.
I am a native Georgian who has worked as a utility regulatory lawyer for more than 30 years both in Washington, DC and Atlanta, GA. During that time, I have represented utilities before the Georgia Public Service and utility commissions throughout the South as well as at federal agencies, and have served at the Federal Communications Commission as a regulatory attorney and Chief of Staff and Senior Legal Advisor to a Commissioner. I was a first-term Trump Presidential appointee at the US Department of Agriculture Rural Utilities Service which provides loans and grants to rural electric and telecommunications companies and ended the term as a Department of Commerce Acting Assistant Secretary for the National Telecommunications and Information Administration, the chief telecommunications advisor to the President.
Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?
The Georgia Public Service Commission (PSC) has failed to prioritize ratepayers when reviewing Georgia Power rate increases. Six rate increases over a three year period is too much. The PSC needs to review, rather than rubber-stamp, rate decisions and needs to study what has led to previous failures to make sure they don't occur again. The PSC needs to closely monitor how power is supplied to data centers that are planned or under construction. The cost of providing power to these massive centers should be borne by their owners, such as Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, and they should be allowed to self-generate power if they choose. Ratepayers should not foot the bill for bringing power to serve these centers. The Georgia PSC needs to be engaged in real prudency review, examine how to improve utility services in Georgia, and make sure the electric grid remains strong.
