In their own words
Who are you? Tell us about yourself.
My name is Carolyn Hall, and I’m running to represent the incredible District 16: the Turnagain, Spenard, and Sand Lake neighborhoods.
In Juneau, I’ve fought for the priorities our community cares about most: fully funding public education, protecting affordable housing, and making sure working families have the opportunities they need to thrive.
I also worked across the aisle to make progress on addressing our structural deficit and bringing stability to our economy, and stood firm against efforts to cut essential services.
I know we still face tough challenges — from financial instability to workforce shortages and the rising costs of living. But I’ve shown I can deliver results by working hard, listening to my constituents, and putting people over politics. With your support, I’ll continue building a stronger Alaska where families, businesses, and communities can grow and succeed.
Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?
Education Funding - We must prioritize resources to strengthen Alaska's education system and provide every child with a quality education.Competitive Wages and Benefits for State Workers - We must attract and retain a skilled workforce by offering competitive compensation and benefits.Fixing the Structural Deficit - We must address Alaska's fiscal challenges to secure a stable financial future and ensure long-term prosperity for future generations of Alaskans.
What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?
Addressing the state’s structural deficit is one of the reasons I ran for office. Alaska is a wealthy state, but we consistently fail to fund the basic public services and infrastructure that Alaskans depend on. We need a comprehensive fiscal plan to diversify and increase our revenue streams.

Who are you? Tell us about yourself.
Born and raised as the eldest of three daughters, I come from a family where the value of public service was instilled early on. My father taught in public schools for over 30 years, and my mother's dedicated service on the local school board for 12 years profoundly influenced my passion for education.
After moving to Alaska in 2008, I quickly fell in love with its people, culture, and unparalleled natural beauty. Since then, I’ve started a successful business and earned a master's degree from the University of Alaska Anchorage; I've made Alaska my home, embracing its outdoor opportunities and actively engaging in community service. However, witnessing the state's recent decline has fueled my determination to enact positive change.
I'm committed to addressing critical issues such as funding public education, improving wages and benefits for state workers, and tackling our structural deficit head-on. My relentless work ethic and unwavering dedication make me the ideal candidate to represent our community's interests in Juneau.
I believe in the power of collaboration and solution-oriented strategies and am eager to work alongside fellow Alaskans to build a brighter future for our state. With your support, we can overcome these challenges and keep Alaska thriving.

What was your very first job? How long did you have it?
My first job was at a small restaurant in my hometown. I started working at age 14 as a dishwasher, then as a waitress and short-order cook, and I worked there for ten years.
What do you perceive to be your state's greatest challenges over the next decade?
Alaska has been more than just a home to me — it's been a place of immense opportunity. I’ve grown a successful business, married my husband, Scott, and live in a historic log cabin in Turnagain. Alaska has given me so much, and my decision to run for office is driven by a deep desire to give back to our great state.
I see the challenges we face — our declining fiscal situation, deteriorating education system, and workforce exodus — and I'm determined to make a change. With your support, I'll focus on funding public education, ensuring competitive wages and benefits for state workers, and fixing our structural deficit to build a stronger, better Alaska.
