Who are you? Tell us about yourself.
I’m a mom of three and a public servant who’s spent my career fighting to make life better for working families. My own mom had four babies by the time she was 20. I fought my way from being a free-school lunch kid to working in the Obama White House, where I helped pass the ACA. I spent a decade working to protect immigrant families. Then, I built a clean energy nonprofit that helped families lower their utility bills–until Trump froze our bank account. I’m running for Congress to fight back, get lower costs for our families, and build a government that works for us, not special interests. I’m not a politician or a lobbyist – just a mom who wants to tell her kids I did everything I could to fight for their futures.
Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?
Affordability! Families are being crushed by constantly rising costs – and this cost of living crisis isn’t inevitable, it’s a result of policies that favor powerful interests over working people. My plan is simple: put families first, hold special interests accountable, and cut costs. One of the fastest ways to deliver real relief is investing in clean energy. My plan is to 1) fund free solar for anyone who will plug into the grid 2) make data centers pay their fair share for increased demand 3) tie executive pay to rates, ending the practice of utilities rewarding CEOs while customers face double-digit bill increases. Lower bills, cleaner energy, people-first solutions, right away.Ending corruption! Our democracy has been poisoned by rampant corruption that has infiltrated both our parties. When elected officials are allowed to trade stocks, move freely between government and lobbying jobs, or rely on corporate PAC money, insiders, special interests, and the ultra-wealthy are benefiting, while working families are squeezed. Corruption doesn’t fix itself. It only ends when leaders are willing to stop seeking perks and exploiting loopholes. In Congress, I will take on powerful interests to fight for a complete ban on stock and crypto trading, fix the damage done by Citizens United, and increase transparency across the board.Health care reform! Soaring health care costs are a full-blown crisis for families, forcing impossible decisions like choosing between filling prescriptions and buying groceries. I’ve spent my career working to expand access to affordable health care, including helping pass the Affordable Care Act – landmark legislation that is now under relentless attack by Trump. In Congress, I will fight for Medicare for All, creating a system that guarantees coverage for any and everyone, strengthens protections for people with pre-existing conditions, and blocks any policy that raises costs for patients and families. Every family deserves access to care that is affordable, dependable, and not dictated by income or insurance plan.
What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?
I’m deeply passionate about the expansion of clean energy. It is the quickest, most practical path to lower costs and a cleaner future. My plan tackles skyrocketing utility costs head-on by expanding our supply of affordable, renewable energy, offering free solar panels and batteries to anyone who will stay connected to the grid, while holding powerful corporate interest groups accountable for driving up costs by making them pay their fair share. I’ve spent my career working at the intersection of policy, affordability and climate action. I started a clean-energy nonprofit that did exactly this – I know it works because I’ve done it! It’s common sense, cost-effective, and a no brainer for NJ families.
