In their own words
Who are you? Tell us about yourself.
I’m Cam Ashling, a small business owner, nonprofit founder, livestock farmer, and financial professional running for Georgia Secretary of State.
I’m a Certified Financial Planner® (CFP®) and Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA). I built my career in private wealth management, working on teams that managed over $1 billion in assets, with a focus on systems, risk management, and protecting clients’ financial futures.
For more than a decade, I’ve been involved in election protection work in Georgia, including helping voters cure absentee ballots, participating in hand counts, and supporting efforts to defend voting access.
I also operate a small business and work as a livestock farmer, giving me experience across both urban and rural parts of the state.
I’m running for Secretary of State to apply my operational and financial background to the office’s responsibilities in elections, business registration, professional licensing, and securities regulation.
Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?
1. Run fair, secure, and auditable elections that all Georgians can trust. Standardize and optimize resource distribution across all 159 counties so that where you live does not impact your voting experience. Increase voter registration, turnout, and participation in election administration to rebuild trust—especially in communities that are harder to reach. Expand language access and improve public education and transparency.2. Support the creation of an additional 100,000 new businesses across Georgia, including nonprofits. Modernize the business registration system with stronger identity protections, improved navigation, and streamlined, user-friendly functionality to better serve a growing economy.3. Address backlogs for professional license holders and improve processing times. Expand reciprocity agreements with other states and evaluate licensing requirements in key trades to strengthen workforce mobility while maintaining consumer protections.
4. Protect Georgia families from financial fraud and scams. Increase investigative capacity to proactively identify and prevent fraud, particularly targeting seniors and vulnerable populations. Strengthen securities oversight and address gaps in broker-dealer licensing to support a stable financial services workforce.
What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?
Everything this office touches is a personal passion of mine—from elections to business development, professional licensing, and financial protection. I’ve spent over a decade in election protection work in Georgia, helping voters cure absentee ballots, participating in hand counts, and supporting fair, transparent processes. As a small business owner and financial professional, I understand how the Secretary of State’s office impacts economic growth and the ability to start and sustain a business. I am focused on improving licensing systems so qualified professionals can enter the workforce more efficiently. I also care deeply about financial education and protecting families—especially seniors—from fraud and scams.
