Who are you? Tell us about yourself.

My name is Calvin Beaulier. I am a father, husband, and attorney who lives in Littleton, New Hampshire. I am running for one of the N.H. State Representative seats for Bath, Lisbon, Littleton, Lyman, Monroe, and Sugar Hill (Grafton County District 1).

A little about me and my upbringing: I grew up with my parents working in a series of small family businesses, first a pizza parlor, then auto body shop, and finally a real estate franchise. During the summer I would visit the Beaulier family farm in northern Maine. Through my upbringing I learned the value of hard work, honesty, and family.

I met my wife while in college and graduated in 2008. Our first child was born the next year in the middle of the what was called “the great recession.” Hopeful for the future, I enrolled in law school and worked part time until I earned my law degree. Once finished, my wife and I decided to return to her native New Hampshire to raise our family. Raising a family in New Hampshire has been one of the best decisions. Although we are still paying off our student loans, I was fortunate to have the opportunity to pursue higher education. While in school I improved my discipline, critical thinking, and advocacy skills.

I am proud to say that I live in New Hampshire, together with my wife, Anastacia, our children, and our pet rescue dog Rusty. I have much to be thankful for in my life. I want to give back by listening to, and advocating for, the people of northern Grafton County.

Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?

Jobs and Economy: Fight for the people of New Hampshire who are struggling with a cost of living crisis due to inflation that has caused high energy prices, high grocery bills, and a lack of affordable housing.Taxes: Oppose broad based taxes such as a state income or sales tax. Fight for the New Hampshire Taxpayer to reduce the overall tax burden.Freedom: will do everything in my power to protect the New Hampshire way of life and ensure liberty and justice for all.

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?

I work in the real estate industry. New Hampshire desperately needs more housing units, particularly affordable rentals and starter homes. Young families, seniors, and their caretakers need housing options so our communities can stay strong far into the future.

What do you believe are the core responsibilities for someone elected to this office?

I think the core responsibilities are to uphold the constitution of New Hampshire, to work for one's constituents to the best of one's ability, and to respect and safeguard the rights of all New Hampshire citizens.

What legacy would you like to leave?

I want to leave behind a world for my children and future generations that is more free and prosperous than the one I was born into. I want to empower families and individuals to pursue happiness on their own terms while safeguarding peace and justice.

I want to give back by advocating for the people of Littleton and Bethlehem. If elected I will work tirelessly for my community and attend every legislative session to make sure the people of Grafton 1 have a voice in Concord.

Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?

ECONOMY: I will work help local businesses and communites recover from COVID-19 and lay the foundation for future economic prosperity.TAXPAYER'S FRIEND: I will oppose any attempt to create an income tax or sales tax while fighting to reduce property taxes.FREEDOM: I will do everying in my power to protect the New Hampshire way of life and ensure liberty and justice for all.

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?

I work in the real estate industry. New Hampshire desperately needs more housing units, particularly affordable rentals and starter homes. I think that New Hampshire can do more to make that happen and remove exclusionary or "snob" zoning that forces middle-class families into expensive, decaying, or crowded housing situations.

What is the first historical event that happened in your lifetime that you remember? How old were you at the time?

I remember the collapse of the Soviet Union. I was 4 years old. I remember how my parents told me that I was lucky to be born in the United States. They told me that I lived in the most free and prosperous society the world had ever known. I will do everything I can to make sure this is still true for my children, and my children's children.

What was the last song that got stuck in your head?

The Catchy Song from The Lego Movie 2 that has a chorus of "this song's gonna get stuck inside your head." My kids love the songs in that movie.

What do you believe is the ideal relationship between the governor and the state legislature?

I think the New Hampshire Constitution strikes a very good balance between the governor and legislature. As one of the original 13 states New Hampshire has a deep tradition that seeks to create a government of, by, and for the people. We have the fourth largest legislature in the English-speaking world to strengthen the influence each constituent has over their representation. On the other hand New Hampshire has a unique Governorship with an Executive Council that creates one of the strongest restraints on centralized executive power of any state. All branches of government exist to protect and serve the people. Ours acknowledges human nature and seeks to create a wise balance of powers to protect all New Hampshire citizens.

Do you believe it’s beneficial to build relationships with other legislators? Please explain your answer.

Absolutely. I believe that despite ideological and personal differences legislators have a job to deliver results for their constituents. To do that requires respect and understanding of the other individuals in the legislature. Without solid working relationships there is a risk of letting partisan or interpersonal conflicts derail legislation which with a broad nonpartisan coalition of support.

If you are not a current legislator, are there certain committees that you would want to be a part of?

Most likely the Commerce and Consumer Affairs Committee since they cover bills related to housing and the real estate industry. I have deep personal experience in that particular industry but I also want to generally support New Hampshire businesses that create prosperity for our society as a whole.
