In their own words
Who are you? Tell us about yourself.
I am a long time Southeast Iowan, born and raised in Ottumwa with deep rural roots and a 28-year career as an IT Project Manager with the Iowa Judicial Branch. I earned recognition from the Iowa Supreme Court for my exemplary dedication to the administration of justice.
As a community servant, proud member of a union family, and grandmother of two, I understand firsthand the challenges facing working families, farmers, and rural communities.
Send me to Des Moines as your state senator. I won't forget where I come from or who I serve. It's the people of Appanoose, Davis, Monroe, and Wapello County Iowa.
Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?
Iowans deserve affordable housing, groceries, and utilities. Rents, home prices, mortgage rates, food, gas, and electrical have all risen in price - but wages have not. One major factor in Iowan's falling earnings is the systematic attack on unions. Prevailing wages need to be proportionate to the rise in living costs. When workers unionize, pay rises and safety measures increase. All workers deserve to make a good living and be safe on the job.
Our state has some of the richest farm land in the nation, and yet, our people cannot keep up with the rising price of food. SNAP and WIC are targets for inhumane cuts in funding.
It's about affordability.High-quality, affordable, and accessible healthcare is a human right. In Wapello County, 60% of patients receive Medicaid. Since that system was privatized 10 years ago, the number of illegal denials of care has risen 900%. The managed care vendors are very slow to pay, leaving medical providers struggling to run a viable clinic or hospital.
I lost my heath insurance entirely when the ACA was gutted. I retired early using affordable, high-quality healthcare from the ACA marketplace. That was great for two years. At the end of 2025, no high-quality, reputable health insurance was available anymore. I was counting on the ACA to get me to Medicare age.
I got tricked. With a cancer history, it is scary to be uninsured.Iowa children deserve a top-notch public education. We were consistently in the top 5 nationwide for decades. Now, we are somewhere in the middle of the pack. We need to fully fund our public schools. Start rebuilding by strengthening teachers' unions.
Iowa's private school voucher system siphons tax money away from public schools. This senate district only has three accredited private schools. Parents pay tuition or get scholarships. The ESA system should be audited and scaled down dramatically or eliminated. The private and homeschool changes passed by the majority party at the end of the 2026 session are ripe for waste, fraud, and abuse. Iowa's new private and home school rules put children in harms way.
