Who are you? Tell us about yourself.

Brandon Chafee is a lifelong resident of Middletown. Brandon is a professional engineer in the State of Connecticut, where he has spent his career working to design a more efficient and reliable electrical grid. He obtained a degree in Civil Engineering from Central Connecticut State University, and also attended the University of Connecticut where he studied in the MBA program with a concentration in Finance. Brandon is a proud member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical workers, where has served as a steward since 2017. Brandon became active in town politics with the desire to create a government more representative of working people.

Brandon decided to run for office for the same reason he became an engineer, to help solve the big problems that face society. His goal is to help build an economy and government that works for us all, which will require long-term vision and planning. In the engineering world, decisions must be made in order to solve the problems of today, while withstanding the test of time. If something Brandon designs is not still safe and functional in fifty years, he sees that as a failure, and this is the mentality he will bring our state government.

Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?

Connecticut has many longstanding structural problems that won't be solved over night. We need to new people with fresh ideas in order to solve these issues. As an engineer, Brandon analyzes and solves complex problems on a daily basis. He will bring an analytical approach and problem-solving experience to state government.Even though he is running for office, Brandon says he is an engineer and not a politician. Brandon is an independent thinker who will make decisions based on facts and data, not on political pressures. We must build an economy and government that works for us all. Working people in this state are struggling to get ahead due to high cost of living, inadequate job prospects, and a government that fails to solve the big problems. Our state can be the best place to live in the country if we start making sound investments in our infrastructure and solving our structural problems.

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?

As a civil engineer, Brandon knows that an efficient transportation system and sound infrastructure are the backbones of a strong society. Over the past few decades we have chronically under invested in maintaining our current transportation system, and building a system for the future. We must reverse this trend and start making sound investments in infrastructure.

The coronavirus is testing our current healthcare system like never before. Hundreds of thousands of people in Connecticut are losing not just their jobs, but also their health insurance. We are seeing shortages of basic supplies and medications that put all of us at risk. We must create a system in which no one loses their health insurance due to job loss. We must also begin to produce and manufacture medical supplies, antibiotics, and prescription medications here in Connecticut instead of relying on foreign suppliers.

As an avid outdoorsman, Brandon has always been a nature lover and conservationist. It has been his long held belief that it is our collective responsibility to preserve the environment for future generations to enjoy. Climate disruption is one of the biggest threats humanity and society have ever faced. We need leaders who not only acknowledge this, but take the necessary action to mitigate it.
