I am the current Vice President of the Shawnee County Young Democrats, an elected Precinct Committeeperson, and a member of Teamsters #696. I am a 28 year old Topeka Resident, where both of my parents were born. I've worked a variety of jobs, from retail to corrections, from $12/hr to $27/hr. After attempting to form a union against one of the largest corporations &
Growing up I never paid much attention to politics. That changed when the 2020 Covid pandemic forced everyone's attention. I began not just paying attention to modern politics, but educating myself more on 20th century US politics. I found 20th century economic progressive politicians like Teddy Roosevelt, Huey Long, FDR, JFK, & RFK appealed to me far more than most Democrats of my own time. It was then I understood why the modern Democrat party lost so many younger men to the Republican party: It lost sight of economic justice.
Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?
A modern candidate for modern issues-
Modern technology requires younger elected officials who understand it as native users. For example, artificial intelligence without regulation threatens entire job industries, credibility, and more. On the other hand, blindly passing "child safety acts" without understanding everyday internet use and enforcement, threatens to turn our "Free nation" into a surveillance state.Everyday politics for everyday people-
I was talking about affordability before it became a buzzword. When everyday people are struggling to afford food, medicine, & shelter, it is no wonder they don't have time to partake in politics. The Democrat party needs to answer the needs of everyday people.Inspiring the apolitical-
I consider myself, "A former independent turned Progressive Democrat." I believe the time has come to cut through the echo chamber algorithms and build up our base.
What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?
I'm most passionate about affordability centered around Union rights. Many Kansans, especially my generation, are financially struggling. While we live paycheck to paycheck, the corporations we work for brag about record profits. My generation has lost the dream of comfortably buying a house & raising a family on a single income. When Union memberships began declining in the 1960s, wealth inequality increased. I believe a foundational step towards reviving the American dream is to revive our labor unions by removing all anti-union laws.
