In their own words

Who are you? Tell us about yourself.

Thank you for considering putting your trust in me to represent you in Congress.I am the son of a single mom, a 5th generation citizen of Washington with grandchildren, very happily married to the mother of our four children, and enthusiastic about the opportunity to give back to my community as your representative. I started working at age 12 delivering the Everett Herald newspaper, started my career as a paid Computer Science and Information Technology teaching assistant 3 hours a day after school at age 16, and have been building my career upon that foundation every day working as a scientist and engineer primarily in the IT field as a management consultant. For decades, I have helped people who organically were not working well together to find common ground and build solutions together as well as making technology work and play better together. This background, combined with 7+ years working in healthcare finance, puts me in a unique position build relationships with other members of Congress to actually solve the problems we face, starting with fixing or replacing Obamacare with something that serves you better. We are now celebrating 250 years of American freedom. Making your life better, protecting your individual liberty, and giving you a path to pursue happiness is a foundational principle of our republic. I have demonstrated throughout my life me commitments to those values and pledge to serve you well as our next representative in the United States House.

Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?

Life: Without life, nothing else matters. It is my unwavering belief that protecting human life and advancing human civilization is a paramount duty of anyone who serves in public office. Your life as a distinct person began with conception and should end naturally without interference. Anything less is a failure of our civilization.Liberty: Protecting our individual liberties to the greatest extent possible while not diminishing the liberties of other Americans is essential to the advancement of our people and our ability to make people's lives better. Liberty empowers innovation, creativity, and challenges us to grow personally, boldly take risks, and do new and incredible things that revolutionize our daily lives.Happiness: Every person has not only a right to live and live free, but also to pursue happiness. This third foundational principle of our civilization is what gives us the ability to pursue the American Dream and grow our society to heights greater than we have ever seen, greater than we can imagine.

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?

America's best days are still ahead of us. It is our responsibility as citizens to build upon the American Dream and leave our country and the world a better place than we found it. Every generation faces this challenge. When I look back to my childhood, I see some good things that we have unfortunately left behind, but I also see tremendous progress in the areas of health, welfare, and the overall human condition across the country and in the world. It is our responsibility to learn from our collective mistakes and make the world a better place on decision at a time, starting first here at home. By putting America First, we will improve our people's lives and be positioned to be of great benefit to the rest of the world.

Who do you look up to? Whose example would you like to follow, and why?

My heart for public service was patterned after the late Senator Jackson, also an Everett native who's first job was delivering our local newspaper, and President Reagan, both men who put public service and our American civilization ahead of personal interested. Both men were ambitious. They also worked together, Democrat and Republican, to do their best to make the world a better place. Neither one was perfect, but their dedication to and love of our people cannot be denied.

What characteristics or principles are most important for an elected official?

A heart for public service, a true love for the people of our communities, and the diligence and integrity to get things done and do the right thing when nobody is watching is fundamental for any elected servant of the people.

What do you believe are the core responsibilities for someone elected to this office?

Protecting and advancing the interests of our people is the core responsibility for a United States Representative. Understanding that means building relationships with others in Congress and other parts of government and working together with others who are serving their constituents is the key to success.

What legacy would you like to leave?

I would like to be remembered for what we accomplish together, not for anything I individually do. If I can contribute to giving the people of the United States another 250 years of hope and freedom together, our people's success, life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness will be a legacy we can share together.

What was your very first job? How long did you have it?

My first job was delivering the Everett Herald, starting at age 12. I kept delivering newspapers until I took a part time after school job at age 16 as a teaching assistant helping other high school students learn Computer Science skills. I have been working ever since.

What is something that has been a struggle in your life?

I have always struggled to maintain a proper balance between family, career, and public service, relying upon my strong faith in the teachings of our Lord Jesus Christ. Because of that faith and dedication to Him, it is my duty to love the people of our community, all of them, and serve them well as if I am serving Him. Not everyone will understand this, and that is fine with me, but it is the force that compels me to take care of my family, be a productive citizen, and be of benefit to others whether or not it is in my best interest. The struggle is to maintain the balance and my faith is my guide.

What qualities does the U.S. House of Representatives possess that makes it unique as an institution?

By design, the House of Representatives is intended to be close to the people, protecting and advancing their interests. It can be a bit chaotic at times and that is fine so long as people of good intent are allowing ideas to compete with the goal of making people's lives better always front and center.

What do you perceive to be the United States' greatest challenges as a nation over the next decade?

Division is growing within our culture. Socialism, extremism, and authoritarianism are all creeping into our political system and becoming accepted as mainstream thought. Our civilization is based upon the general principle that we are all created equal, have permanent rights that come from our Creator, and that government's job is to protect those rights. Standing firmly committed to building relationships with others and finding new ways to work together for America's good is essential as we navigate the difficult water of today's complicated world.

Do you believe that compromise is necessary or desirable for policymaking?

Yes, so long as compromise does not include abandonment of core principles. Politics is the art of the possible. It is filled with partial successes and failures. We will stumble forward at times, but if we do it together and respect each other's interests along the way, we will advance our American civilization to greater places than we have been historically.

What organizations or individuals have endorsed your campaign?

Mainstream Republicans of Washington, America First slate, multiple Republican Party legislative district and county committees on both sides of the Cascades.

What was the first historical event that happened in your lifetime that you remember?

I remember the shameful end to our involvement in the Vietnam War. Memories of the line on the map moving south as Communist forces took complete control of the country is one of my most vivid memories of history unfolding when I was a child. We need to not only be a beacon of freedom, but also a reliable ally of freedom-loving people around the world. We saw a repeat of this event in the shameful abandonment of the people of Afghanistan. This must never happen again.

Campaign website

Hagglund’s campaign website stated the following:

PROTECTING YOUR CHILDREN, PARENTAL RIGHTS, AND WOMEN

In Washington, we treasure the rich diversity and strength of our communities, where every individual’s contribution is vital to our collective well-being. At the heart of Bob’s vision for a brighter future are three core commitments: protecting your children, protecting parental rights, and safeguarding the achievements and rights of women. These are not just policies; they’re promises Bob upholds to maintain the values that make our state a beacon of hope and prosperity.

Protecting Your Children and Parental Rights:

Our children are our most precious resource, the bearers of our hopes and dreams for the future. Yet, in our schools today, many parents are concerned that their children are being exposed to materials and ideologies that don’t align with their family’s values, or worse, their children aren’t being prepared for success in the real world. Bob believes in an education system that empowers our children with knowledge and skills, preparing them for a successful future while respecting the values of their families and he will block any woke legislation that comes across his desk as Lt. Governor in his role as President of the Senate.

Safeguarding the Achievements and Rights of Women:

The strides made by our mothers, sisters, wives, and daughters over the last fifty years have empowered women and moved us closer to equality in the public and private sectors of society. However, recent policy efforts by the progressive left threaten to undermine these gains, challenging the very essence of womanhood. Bob stands against any notion that diminishes the achievements or the unique identity of our mothers, sisters, wives, and daughters in our society.

Bob believes in respect, inclusivity, and proactive protection for the rights and well-being of your children, of parents, and all women. It’s a promise from Bob to uphold the values that our community cherishes, to ensure that our educational system empowers students and parents rather than undermines them, and to celebrate and protect the unique contributions and rights of women in our society.
