Hello, I’m Bernard Taylor, I am a Firefighter, and I am honored to announce my candidacy for the Democratic nomination to represent Florida’s 21st Congressional District.
Our district—home to Port St. Lucie, Fort Pierce, Stuart, Jupiter, and Palm Beach Gardens—is a diverse, hardworking, and resilient community. From our dedicated educators and small business owners to our frontline workers and families striving for a better future, the strength of Florida’s Treasure Coast lies in its people.

Economic Growth – It’s time to invest in small businesses, create good-paying jobs, and attract sustainable industries that strengthen our economy.Healthcare Access – No one should have to choose between their health and their financial security. We must fight for affordable, high-quality healthcare for all.Education Excellence – Investing in our schools means equipping our children with the tools they need to thrive.
What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?
Economic Opportunity, Healthcare Access, and Education Expansion.
Who do you look up to? Whose example would you like to follow, and why?
I look up to my father. He is the example to me of what it means to stand on principle no matter the consequences.

I’m a leader, I’m responsible, I’m honest, and I’m compassionate.

To represent their constituents and do what’s in their best interest.

To leave the country in a better place for the average American.
What is the first historical event that happened in your lifetime that you remember? How old were you at the time?
9-11-2021 Terror attacks. I was in my 7th grade history class when the news broke.
What was your very first job? How long did you have it?
Stock Clerk at Winn Dixie for a Year.
What is your favorite book? Why?
The Diary of Anne Frank. Even amongst potential consequences, there are people willing to help those most vulnerable.

Learning to accept things that you can’t change.

It is a more broad representation of the country as a whole.

What do you perceive to be the United States' greatest challenges as a nation over the next decade?
Earning the trust of the people.

There should be term limits for everyone in government.

Both sitting representatives and candidates for office hear many personal stories from the residents of their district. Is there a story that you’ve heard that you found particularly touching, memorable, or impactful?
The amount of seniors that run calls on as a fireman who are worried about losing their healthcare and not being able to afford their medical bills is truly heartbreaking.
Do you believe that compromise is necessary or desirable for policymaking?
Compromise is necessary were it can be accomplished. Some things you have to stand on what you believe is right.
The Constitution says that all bills for raising revenue must originate in the House. What role would this power play in your priorities if elected?
Putting the country in the best way to serve the people and reduce the budget deficit at the same time.
How should the U.S. House use its investigative powers?
To investigate legitimate concerns and potential violations of the law.
What committees interest you?
Oversight, Ways and Means.
What are your views on financial transparency and government accountability?
I believe that transparency is extremely important and we need campaign finance reform.
