In their own words
Who are you? Tell us about yourself.
I’m a scientist whose career is about tackling tough problems. Over nine years on the City Council, we’ve delivered major progress on affordable housing, development without displacement, safe streets, and government accountability. Now I’m running for State Rep to bring this progressive work to the State House. Together, we can accomplish great things.
Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?
You deserve a State Representative who can get things done for Somerville. Together we will fight for affordable housing. We will fund affordable housing with stable revenue streams, protect tenants from unfair rent increases, expand affordable home ownership, and promote transit-oriented development.Together, we will fix the MBTA and make streets safer for all. Somerville deserves excellent mass transit and safe, pleasant streets for all road users. I’ll fight to fully fund public transit and deliver transformative safe streets projects.
We will create green jobs, climate infrastructure, and economic justice. We will deliver “triple win” projects: good for workers, for the environment, and for social and racial justice. As your State Rep, I’ll stand with workers and neighbors fighting for a sustainable and just economy. We will fully fund Public Schools. In Somerville we’ve won critical budgetary investments that our schools so deeply deserve in Somerville. At the State House, we will fight for extraordinary public schools, early childhood education, and debt-free higher ed.
We will fight invasive surveillance and government over-reach. I led the work to ban facial recognition technology, wrote the Surveillance Oversight Ordinance, and helped block collaboration with unconstitutional Federal activities. I’ll fight against tech giants and government over-reach to protect our civil rights and privacy.
What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?
Housing affordability, workers rights, safe streets, great public schools, climate change, and standing up to authoritarianism.
