In their own words
Who are you? Tell us about yourself.
As a first generation college student and mother of two girls, I understand first hand the affordability crisis that Floridians are facing. I was raised amid cow pastures and orange groves, but under Republican leadership we’ve seen wealthy developers and insurance shareholders are prioritized over families and farmers.
Florida is such a beautiful place with summer all year, and a wealth of locals, transplants and tourists. Our family lives here are rich with theme parks, community and hard workers.
And yet, with grocery bills still at all time highs and gas prices on the rise, families aren’t able to enjoy time together as they struggle to keep the AC on.
Is Tallahassee doing anything about it? Nope! The people in power are focused on making money for themselves and their friends. They have no plan to address what Floridians actually want and need. This is why we need a change, and part of that change is sending progressive candidates like myself to Tallahassee to represent District 69: Brandon, Lithia, Riverview, Valrico and Wimauma.
I've spent my career fighting for working families - at FDOT, in our schools, in our neighborhoods. With your help, I’ll bring that fight to Tallahassee. The rich and powerful have had their chance to make life better for working people, and now it’s our time. Join me, and let’s take our home back and build a better Florida for everyone.
Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?
One of the most pressing problems I hear from voters in my community is homeowner’s insurance. As a homeowner myself, I’m very aware how unaffordable insurance has become if you are lucky enough to be covered. Then when we have insurance claims the companies have been allowed to delay, deny and defraud. The state could do a lot more to regulate and subsidize. I will fight to pass legislation that would require insurance companies to respond to claims within 30 days, require legislative approval for rate increases and ensure they suffer significant penalties for bad-faith denials. The second most pressing problem in our area is transportation issues which are connected to rapid development with limited urban planning. I would make developers pay their fair share and seek to make state matching funds available for zero-fare bus service on the corridors choking east Hillsborough. The climate crisis is an existential threat and ongoing reality. The global inability to meet the moment has led to a myriad of problems in my district including the insurance crisis, increasing occurrence of flooding, power outages due to storms, and hotter and longer summers. It is critical that our elected representatives at every level understand climate change and invest in hurricane resiliency and energy independence through solar power to reduce electricity bills.
