In their own words

Who are you? Tell us about yourself.

I am moderate, NPP, Independent, and believe that voters still control our nation. This is the election in which moderate voters of all parties can take back California. I know we can find a better balance in Sacramento.

For more of my bio, please see my "Meet Arthur" tab on my web site.

I operate under three core principles. I will base my decisions on them and on voter input.

Limited Federalism - a balanced partnership between federal and state governments. Limited government refers to the role of the government being subordinate to the electorate. In this nation at least, the government gets it authority from the people. The government does not tell the people what they must do. It is the people who tell the government what it is allowed to do.

Freedom to Choose - as Milton Friedman asked, if people do not have the Freedom to Choose, are they really free? Today, California's government is busy telling the people how to live, how to raise their children, how to interpret news events, and even how to cook our food and what type of car to drive. That is upside down.

Election Integrity - Leaders of both major parties complain about election problems and interference. We must be able to trust our elections and there is work to be done to recover that trust. If we do not trust an election, then how do we support the elected leaders and give them the benefit of the doubt. Without election integrity, our democracy is doomed.

Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?

I will vote against any bill to increase taxes or to put a tax increase onto the ballot.

I will vote to raise the tax increase requirement back up to two thirds majority.

This is an affordability issue. We must leave more money in the hands of the people. The state government has a spending issue, not a revenue issue.I will promote any bill that reduces the size of state government.

California's government has grown by 90% in ten years, far above inflation levels. It has chosen new roles for itself, outside of elections, both in staffing up certain departments and in transfer payments to non-governmental organizations. California's government now takes a bigger share of California's wealth than ever before. We must reign it in. The best way to do that would be to eliminate those departments and agencies who mandate how Californians live. We must regain control over the government and stop letting the government control us.I will promote Voter ID and cleansing of the voter registration roles. There will still be a generous definition of what qualifies as a voter ID. There will still be provisional ballots allowed as a routine.

We must know who is voting and whether they are eligible. This is especially important with the current convention of universal mail-in ballots. As people move between elections, some people have multiple ballots mailed to them. They only receive the one that is mailed to their current residence. Who gets the others? What do they do with them? We just don't know, and that is a problem. We have to do better than just saying "sign the back of the envelope" and then separately adopting a policy of automatic matching if signed.

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?

Taxes - our current level of taxation is far too high and it is going higher for everyone.

Housing - the private sector builds housing. They must be encouraged.

Size of Government - 90% over 10 years is too much. California's government must be reduced, leaving more money in the hands of Californians.

Homelessness - this is the shame of our state. Other states are doing much better. We need to listen and learn from them.

Fraud - in the last few years California has greatly increased its transfer payments to non-governmental organizations (NGOs). The amounts leaving Health and Human Services appear to be in the tens of billions. We alll see the news events of massive and obvious fraud. There seems to be a failure of oversight.

Who do you look up to? Whose example would you like to follow, and why?

Abraham Lincolm - no explanation needed
