In their own words

Who are you? Tell us about yourself.

I am a special education teacher. My son and I live just a couple of miles from where I grew up in Albert Lea. We have Sunday lunches with the folks. When I see a need in my community, I step up, do the hard work and partner with everyone. When my local union needed a new president, I stepped into that role. When I wanted to bring a parent’s perspective to Albert Lea schools, I ran for and was elected to the school board. When the Albert Lea hospital was losing services, I became a leader in Save Our Hospital. When the Albert Lea Human Rights Commission lapsed, I pushed to restart it and now serve on the HRC board. I have worked alongside others to support my community. I want to continue this work as a Minnesota State Senator.

Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?

I believe that rural patients deserve affordable healthcare close to home. I stood up for healthcare as a leader in Save Our Hospital. Rural patients are not getting the healthcare they need.

As your state senator:

I will fight to lower the cost of healthcare for rural Minnesotans.

I will work to lower the cost of prescription drugs.

I will fight for rural healthcare that is close to home.Education

I believe that rural public schools deserve to be fairly funded by the state. I have seen the challenges that rural school districts face as a special education teacher and school board member.

As your state senator:

I will stand against unfunded mandates.

I will work for full state funding of our public schools.I believe that Minnesotans should be able to afford their property taxes and that big businesses and the super wealthy pay their fair share. Across my district, voters tell me over and over that property taxes are too high.

As your state senator:

I will fight for full state funding for our public schools

I will work to increase local government aid to our cities and counties.

I will work for fair home and business assessments that reflect the correct value of the property.

I will advocate for limits on yearly property tax increases.

I will work so that big business and the super wealthy pay their fair share.

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?

I am passionate about our rural communities, healthcare, education, economic development, protecting our civil rights and freedoms, preventing fraud, lowering property taxes, healthy land, air and water, senior and veteran issues and farmers.
