Expand AllWho are you? Tell us about yourself.I am a Democratic State Representative from Jacksonville, mother, union organizer, and small business owner. I have worked on legislation expanding childcare access, addressing price‑gouging, and challenging Florida’s voting maps. Prior to this, I led the statewide coalition Florida for All, and I run a community‑focused bookstore in Jacksonville. Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?Floridians are being crushed by an affordability crisis created by greed and corruption. No one in the richest country in the world should go bankrupt because they need medical care, and housing is the foundation of stability.Florida’s Families shouldn’t fear losing their home because their insurance doubled overnight.
I will fight to do everything I can to help lower everyday costs, create a healthcare system that works for everyone, and protect Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, and the VA.I will fight to make childcare affordable and accessible because that is an investment in our next generation and has incredibly strong economic returns for parents and local economies. What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?Public policy first and foremost should work for people and, right now, that’s not the case. People are struggling to put food on their table and keep a roof over their head. Meanwhile, politicians in Washington are looking out for corporations. I’m running for U.S. Senate to make sure the government works for us, not against us.Who do you look up to? Whose example would you like to follow, and why?I look up to my mom. She sometimes worked two jobs to keep food on the table for my family. She helps me raise my kids and she is a true matriarch that keeps the family going.
I also look up to Rep. Shirley Chisholm. She pulled up a folding chair when the establishment wouldn’t let her have a seat at the table. She was unbought and unbossed and was a great community leader and congresswoman. What characteristics or principles are most important for an elected official? We need morally-grounded elected officials with a backbone, who truly listen to the voters and have a plan to deliver on their needs. At the core of the job, an elected official is there to serve the public. Elected officials should not be beholden to any outside group, or big dollar corporate donors. Their focus should be on the immediate needs of the people they represent. What do you believe are the core responsibilities for someone elected to this office? It’s simple: A U.S. Senator should listen to the people they want to represent and take the needs of the people to Washington and fight tirelessly for what the people need. This is what I have done in the Florida State House and I am prepared to do the same in Washington. What legacy would you like to leave? The legacy I want to leave behind is that I was a fighter who delivered and showed people that elected officials can be trusted to do the right thing. I want to leave folks with hope that we can always change things for the better. What was your very first job? How long did you have it?I was a lifeguard for 11 seasons. What is something that has been a struggle in your life?I have struggled to find work life balance because I realize I need to work to keep food on the table but also that I have a family I want to enjoy life with. What do you perceive to be the United States' greatest challenges as a nation over the next decade? To focus on the needs of the people over the desires of corporations and the 1%.Do you believe that compromise is necessary or desirable for policymaking?Yes, just like in all aspects of life, getting exactly what you want is not the norm. I believe we can compromise without allowing our morals to fall by the wayside. What organizations or individuals have endorsed your campaign?Track AIPAC

Campaign websiteNixon's campaign website stated the following:A Government that Works for its People, Not CorporationsAngie believes that the government should work for working people — not corporations, not billionaires, and not the political establishment in either party that keeps letting them win.Ask any Florida family what’s on their mind — whether they’re a Democrat, Republican, or don’t care much for either party — and you’ll hear the same thing: everything costs too much, and their paycheck can’t keep up.Since the pandemic, household expenses have jumped nearly a third. In Florida, the cost of living is climbing almost five times faster than it did a decade ago. Meanwhile, wages have stayed the same. Today, only a third of Floridians think our own state is affordable. This isn’t an accident. It isn’t inevitable. While the average American is struggling, corporate landlords, insurance companies, and grocery chains have posted record profits. This year, Elon Musk became the world’s first trillionaire. And instead of delivering relief, politicians in Washington have spent months absorbed in a war that’s driving gas and energy prices even higher, while killing innocent civilians and American service people. Enough is enough.Angie will fight for the Working Families GuaranteeMedicare for AllFree ChildcareFree Paid Family and Sick LeaveA National Rent Freeze and Moratorium on EvictionsA universal jobs program with inflation-adjusted wagesHow will we pay for it?Tax the billionaires so that everyone pays their fair sharePrioritize the needs of everyday Americans instead of spending trillions on war and violence overseasGet big money out of politicsMedicare for AllAngie will fight forThe United States is the richest country on earth but doesn’t guarantee healthcare to all its people. Americans pay more for worse outcomes than anywhere else in the developed world. That’s not a healthcare system, it’s a protection racket for insurance and drug companies.Roughly 100 million Americans — about 4 in 10 adults — carry some form of medical debt, totaling at least $220 billion nationwide. People aren’t going into debt because they made bad choices; they’re going into debt because they got sick, had a baby or broke a bone.Angie will fight for:Medicare for All that covers every person in America — free at the point of service, with no premiums, no deductibles, no copays, and no surprise bills.Comprehensive coverage, including dental, vision, hearing, mental health and substance use treatment, reproductive and maternity care, and prescription drugs.Capping prescription drug costs and ending price gouging by drug companies.Protecting reproductive freedom, including the right to abortion, contraception, and IVF, free from political interference.Expanding home and community-based long-term care so seniors and people with disabilities can age with dignity.Canceling the medical debt crushing families. Canceling existing medical debt, wiping it off credit reports for good, and banning debt collectors from coming after patients for medical bill. Angie support senator Sanders’ bipartisan-backed Medical Debt Cancellation Act.Paid family and medical leave for every worker in America, guaranteed by lawUniversal Child Care and Pre-KAngie will fight forChild care in America costs more than college tuition in most states. As a mom of 5, Angie knows this struggle deeply because she is experiencing it. Angie will fight for:Universal, high-quality child care and pre-kindergarten for every family, regardless of income, capping costs so no family pays more than a small share of their income.Living wages for child care and early-childhood educators, who are among the most underpaid workers in the country despite doing some of its most important work.Universal school meals so no child goes hungry during the school day.Quality Public Education, Cradle to CareerAngie will fight forGetting an education in America shouldn’t mean a lifetime of debt. About 43 million Americans now owe nearly $2 trillion in student loan debt. That’s about $43,500 per borrower, meaning people owe more for simply trying to get an education than they do on their cars or credit cards. A degree that was once a ticket to the middle class has become a financial trap for millions of families, forcing young people to delay buying a home, starting a family, or saving for retirement just to keep up with payments on an education they were told they needed to get ahead. It’s not a personal failure; it’s the predictable result of a system that treats higher education as a private commodity instead of a public good. Angie will fight for:Tuition-free public college and trade school, and canceling student debt.Fully funding public K-12 schools and increased teacher wages Expanding vocational and apprenticeship programs that lead directly to good union jobs.Housing You Can Actually AffordAngie will fight forRent is too high, homeownership is out of reach for millions, and Wall Street landlords are buying up housing stock and squeezing renters to enrich themselves. Florida is getting hit the hardest, and is now the worst state in the country for renters. On top of this, Florida homeowners now pay some of the highest insurance premiums in the nation — often as high as $10,000 a year — nearly three to four times the national average. Housing is a human right, not a speculative asset for the billionaire class. Angie will fight for:Massive investment in permanently affordable housing, building millions of new affordable units nationwide.A national rent stabilization standard, just-cause eviction protections, and the right to counsel in eviction proceedings.Cracking down on corporate landlords and Wallstreet speculators buying up single-family homes and driving up rents.Expanding Section 8 vouchers so every eligible family can access one without languishing on a waitlist.Federal action on the property insurance crisis, including reinsurance backstops and stronger consumer protections, so Floridians aren’t priced out of their own homes by an insurance market that keeps failing them.Disaster resilience funding to harden homes against hurricanesStanding with Workers and UnionsAngie will fight forFor too long, corporations have rigged labor law against working people. Angie was a labor organizer and will fight for the dignity of all workers. Angie will fight for:Passing the PRO Act to make it easier to form a union and harder for corporations to bust one.Paid family and medical leave for every worker in America, guaranteed by law.Raising the federal minimum wage to a real living wage, indexed to inflation, for every worker, including immigrant and incarcerated workers. Ending “right to work” laws and extending labor protections to workers historically excluded from them, including farmworkers and domestic workers.Protecting pensions and Social Security, and expanding benefits rather than cutting them.Fighting outsourcing and trade policy that has hollowed out American manufacturing townsReining in Big Tech and AIAngie will fight forAI companies are racing to build massive data centers, and everyday families are getting stuck with the bill through higher electricity rates, strained water supplies and job cuts — while a handful of billionaires reap the profits. On top of this, AI companies are rushing products to market that millions now use every day — — with little to no safety testing and no accountability when things go wrong. And things have gone wrong: families have testified before Congress after AI chatbots encouraged self-harm, failed to intervene during a mental health crisis, or in the most tragic cases, were linked to a child’s suicide. This isn’t a hypothetical harm. It’s already happened, and the companies that built these products have moved faster than the laws meant to hold them accountable.Angie will fight for:Making tech companies pay for the energy and water they use, not passing those costs on to ratepayers. No new construction of data centers before there are real federal guardrails put in place, including environmental review and community input requirements. Protecting workers from AI-driven job displacement, including a real seat at the table for workers and unions as automation reshapes their industries.Breaking up concentrated tech monopolies and strengthening antitrust enforcement against Big Tech.Protecting personal data privacy and preventing AI-driven surveillance and discrimination.Real safety requirements for AI chatbots and companion apps, including mandatory protocols to detect suicidal ideation and connect users to real crisis resources — not silence, and not an AI pretending to be a therapist.Clear disclosure that a user is talking to a machine, not a person — at the start of every conversation and repeated regularly, so no one, especially a child, is confused or manipulated into an unhealthy emotional dependency.Banning AI companies from letting chatbots impersonate licensed doctors, therapists, or attorneys Independent safety testing before AI products reach kids, not after the harm is already done.Funding for families and survivors to pursue accountability, and support for the crisis-response infrastructure (like 988) that these products should be routing kids toward, not away from.A Foreign Policy Rooted in Diplomacy, Human Rights, and RestraintAngie will fight forAngie believes American foreign policy should reflect the values of everyday Americans, not the interests of defense contractors and foreign lobbies. The US has spent billions of dollars waging war in Iran and jeopardizing the lives of American service members and Iranian civilians, all for a war that Americans did not ask for. Angie will fight for:An end to the war in Iran and rebalancing the federal budget toward investments in everyday people here at homeEnding unconditional U.S. military aid that has fueled the genocide in Palestine Surging humanitarian aid into Gaza and the Westbank and supporting a lasting ceasefire, an end to US support for illegal settlements, and a political path to Palestinian self-determination. Restoring U.S. participation and funding across UN agencies, including the World Health Organization, the UN Human Rights Council, and core humanitarian and public health programs that Americans and the rest of the world rely on.Restoring humanitarian funding, including support that helps deliver food, medicine, and aid to refugees and children in crisis zones around the world.Using the UN Security Council and multilateral diplomacy — not unilateral military action — as the first tool for resolving international conflicts, including in the Middle East.Support Human Dignity, Ending Mass Incarceration and Mass DeportationAngie will fight forThe US has the largest policing, incarceration and deportation system in the world. Millions of people — disproportionately Black, brown, and poor — are locked in cages or living in fear of a knock on the door, while corporations get rich off their suffering. This is not about safety. It is about control and profit. I don’t believe any person is illegal, and I don’t believe human beings should be treated as commodities in a system built to punish rather than to heal. Real safety comes from good jobs, strong schools, affordable housing, and healthcare for all — not from more cameras, more cages, and more agents tearing families apart. It is time we had the courage to say it plainly: mass incarceration and mass deportation are moral failures, and I will fight in the United States Senate to end them.Angie will fight for:Ending mass incarceration, including federal decriminalization of marijuana and investment in treatment over incarceration for substance use.Demilitarizing policing and investing in community-based public safety, violence prevention and crisis response A humane immigration system, including a swift path to citizenship for Dreamers and undocumented residents, and a moratorium on deportations pending a full audit of enforcement practices.Abolishing ICE and rebuilding immigration enforcement from scratch. Since its creation in 2003, ICE has operated with almost no accountability — and that’s escalated into real tragedy, including U.S. citizens killed by federal immigration agents during enforcement surges in cities like Minneapolis. Angie believes an agency that has repeatedly shown it cannot be trusted with the power it has should not be reformed at the margins — it should be dismantled, with any legitimate immigration enforcement function rebuilt under new, accountable civilian oversight, due process protections, and a mission that reflects American values instead of terror tactics.Ending for-profit prisons and detention centersProtecting Your Privacy and Ending Mass SurveillanceAngie will fight forAcross the country, communities are pushing back against the rapid, unregulated spread of AI-powered surveillance technology — including automated license plate readers (ALPRs) like those sold by Flock Safety. These systems can track every vehicle that passes a camera, building a searchable record of where people go, when, and how often. That data can end up in the hands of federal immigration agents, out-of-state law enforcement, or bad actors — often without a warrant, without public knowledge, and without meaningful oversight. I believe you shouldn’t have to choose between public safety and your right to privacy. Angie will fight for: Requiring warrants for Surveillance Data Access Law enforcement should not be able to search months of a person’s movements without judicial oversight. I will fight for federal standards requiring a warrant before ALPR or similar location data can be accessed in most circumstancesEnding Data Sharing with Federal Immigration Enforcement Local police departments should not become a surveillance arm of ICE or CBP. I support legislation prohibiting the sharing of license plate and location data with federal immigration authorities absent a criminal warrant.Mandatory Data Deletion Windows Indefinite retention of everyone’s movements — regardless of suspicion — is not acceptable. I will push for federal guidelines requiring surveillance data to be deleted within a short, defined window (in line with state laws that already require deletion within weeks) unless it is tied to an active investigation.Transparency and Public Accountability Communities deserve to know when surveillance systems are installed, who has access to the data, how it’s used, and how often it leads to shared information with outside agencies. I support requiring public reporting and independent audits for any federally funded surveillance program.Ending Federal Funding for Mass Surveillance Systems Without Guardrails Taxpayer dollars should not underwrite surveillance systems that lack basic privacy protections. I will advocate for tying federal grants and infrastructure funding to clear limits on ALPR use, data sharing, and retention.Protect Vulnerable Communities from Targeting Surveillance systems have a documented history of disproportionately impacting immigrants, communities of color, and political dissidents. Any federal framework must include explicit protections against discriminatory use and misuse for political or retaliatory purposes.Local Control and Consent Decisions about whether to deploy surveillance technology in a community should involve real public input — not be made unilaterally by a mayor’s office or a single department. I support requiring community consent processes before new surveillance contracts are signed or renewed with federal support.Climate Action that Matches the Scale of the CrisisAngie will fight forThe climate crisis is an existential threat, and the fossil fuel industry has spent decades lying about it while cashing in. Angie rejects the false choice between good jobs and a livable planet.Angie will fight for:A bold, union-built transition to renewable energy, creating millions of good-paying, union jobs in wind, solar, and grid modernization, prioritizing the frontline communities that have borne the brunt of pollution for generations.Ending taxpayer subsidies for fossil fuel corporations and making polluters pay for the damage they’ve caused.Rebuilding and hardening the electric grid, so it’s resilient, affordable, and ready for a clean-energy futureDisaster resilience funding to harden homes against hurricanes. Taking FEMA out of the Department of Homeland SecurityProtecting and Expanding Democracy, Getting Money Out of PoliticsAngie will fight forWhen a handful of billionaires can spend hundreds of millions of dollars to influence an election and the average person gets one vote, that’s not a democracy for the many, but a corrupt government working for a few. Angie will fight to make this country a real democracy, so that this government works for all of us, not just the wealthy eliteAngie will fight for: Overturning Citizens United so corporations and billionaires can no longer buy elections with unlimited, often secret spending.Abolishing super PACs and imposing real contribution limits. I suppor the Abolish Super PACs Act which would cap super PAC contributions at $5,000 — replacing today’s unlimited-money free-for-all with public financing that amplifies small-dollar donors instead of billionaire donors.Restoring and expanding the Voting Rights Act, including automatic voter registration for every American over 18, and ending racist voter suppression and burdensome voter ID laws.Ending partisan gerrymandering with independent redistricting commissions.Making Election Day a national holiday, so working people don’t have to choose between their paycheck and their vote.Re-enfranchising Americans with felony convictions, restoring voting rights to the millions of Americans who have served their time and deserve to have their voice back.Public financing of elections, so candidates can run competitive campaigns without relying on corporate donors.Banning members of Congress from trading individual stocks while in office.Closing the revolving door between Congress, federal agencies, and the corporate lobbyists who work to influence them.Full transparency in campaign spending, ending dark money in our elections.Term limits and ethics reform for the Supreme Court, including binding ethics rules for all federal judges.Statehood for Washington, D.C., so its residents finally get full representation in Congress.A real, binding process for Puerto Rico to determine its own political future — statehood, independence, free association, or another path — decided by the people of Puerto Rico themselves, not dictated by Washington. More than 3 million American citizens on the island currently have no vote for president and no voting representation in Congress, despite paying certain federal taxes and serving in the U.S. military at high rates.Making Billionaires and Corporations Pay Their Fair ShareAngie will fight forBillionaire fortunes have exploded over the past few years while working families fall further behind on rent, groceries, and medical bills. Florida is home to more billionaires than almost any other state and meanwhile, everyday Floridians are struggling more than anyone with housing costs, healthcare cuts, job loss and inflation. Angie believes we can afford Medicare for All, universal child care, and a clean-energy future. What we can’t afford is letting the richest people in the country keep paying less in taxes than a nurse or a line cook.Angie will fight for:A 5% annual wealth tax on billionaires. I support Senator Sanders’ Make Billionaires Pay Their Fair Share Act, which would apply only to net worth above $1 billion — hitting fewer than 1,000 people in the entire country. Independent economists estimate it would raise roughly $4.4 trillion over ten years without raising taxes by a single dollar on anyone worth less than $1 billion.Direct relief for working families, funded by that revenue — including direct payments to households earning under $150,000 a year, expanding Medicare to cover dental, vision, and hearing, and building millions of affordable homes.Taxing capital gains the same as wages, so a billionaire’s stock portfolio isn’t taxed at a lower rate than a worker’s paycheck.Closing the loopholes that let profitable corporations pay $0 in federal income tax, including offshore tax havens and the “stepped-up basis” loophole that lets fortunes pass tax-free from one generation to the next.A federal asset registry and real IRS enforcement, so the ultra-wealthy can no longer hide assets or dodge audits — while ensuring the IRS stays focused on high-dollar evasion, not everyday taxpayers.Cracking down on corporate price gouging in groceries, housing, and health care, where record corporate profits have tracked closely with what families are paying at the register.— Angela Nixon's campaign website (August 27, 2026)Note: This text is quoted verbatim from the original source.
