Who are you? Tell us about yourself.

Andres Portela. Former Senior Policy Advisor with the City of Tucson. Black Futures Lab Policy Fellow. NFHA Emerging Leader in Civil Rights.

Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?

Housing. Keeping families in their homes while addressing affordability and homelessness. We need to address gaps in services for renters, homelessness, aging in places, young families and in between.Opportunity. To address opportunity in Tucson, we must start with public health as defined in plan Tucson. I will take the approach of addressing social determinants of health.Mobility Justice. Addressing road safety is paramount. We must address mobility through a justice perspective, so everyone feels safe within our community.

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?

Office of public health

Decoupling public safety from Police to The Department of Transportation and Mobility

Establishing a public advocate position

The office m requires someone who will be a public representative with a vast understanding of administrative policy.

The dream of MLK Jr. For a beloved community.

What characteristics or principles are most important for an elected official?

Humility.

What qualities do you possess that you believe would make you a successful officeholder?

Humility. Listening.

What do you believe are the core responsibilities for someone elected to this office?

To be an actual representative.

What legacy would you like to leave?

Housing policy.

What is the first historical event that happened in your lifetime that you remember? How old were you at the time?

My first significant life event was 9/11. I was in the second grade.

What was your very first job? How long did you have it?

I was picking weeds with my friends. It was a business where we picked all the weeds in the neighborhood for years.
