Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?
I believe education decisions should prioritize classrooms, respect parents, and remain accountable to Kansas families not bureaucracies. On the Kansas State Board of Education I will stand for student achievement, parental rights, and fiscal responsibility.I believe there needs to be board members who will stand strong and make decisions based on students and not keep doing the same thing hoping for different results. Over 150,000 Kansas students have limited ability to read nearing illiteracy. The state board needs to ensure districts are complying with state law. The state board needs to increase standards. I do not agree with the lowering of standards which occurred last year. As a board member I will work with the legislature and local boards to ensure statutes are followed and the focus remains on increasing student achievement. Our schools should focus on what matters most: strong academics, safe classrooms, respect for parents, and responsible use of taxpayer dollars. As a former member of the Lansing USD 469 School Board, I worked to prioritize student achievement, fiscal responsibility, and transparency. Those same principles are why I’m running for the Kansas State Board of Education.
Kansas students deserve higher academic standards and classrooms focused on learning. Parents deserve to be respected partners in their children’s education. Taxpayers deserve careful stewardship of every dollar. These are the priorities I will bring to the State Board.
What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?
Parents always maintain the right to direct the upbringing and education of their children. This must always be respected. The focus must always remain on what is best for students and if each decision made is centered around that and if it will increase student achievement while maintaining fiscal responsibility. I also will swear an oath to the constitution and faithfully execute my duties.
