Amelia Wiederaenders (Democratic Party) is running for election to the Kansas House of Representatives to represent District 30. Wiederaenders is on the ballot in the general election on November 3, 2026. Wiederaenders advanced from the Democratic primary on August 4, 2026.

Who are you? Tell us about yourself.

Amelia is running for the Kansas House because she believes government should work for everyday people- not just the wealthy and well-connected. Like many Kansans, she understands the challenges families face as the cost of housing, healthcare, transportation, and daily life continues to rise. She is committed to listening to constituents, fighting for affordable communities, and ensuring every voice is heard in Topeka.

For more than 16 years, Amelia has worked on political campaigns and community advocacy efforts at the local, state, and national levels. Through that work, she has seen firsthand the difference compassionate, effective leadership can make in people’s lives and developed a deep belief in public service that puts communities first.

From 2013 to 2019, Amelia lived in San Francisco, where she continued her work in campaigns and public affairs while gaining experience working with diverse communities and addressing the challenges facing growing urban areas. Those experiences strengthened her understanding of how thoughtful public policy can improve affordability, transportation, and quality of life.

Amelia has also spent the past seven years serving as a caregiver for her 103-year-old grandmother. That experience gave her firsthand insight into the financial and emotional challenges many families face when caring for loved ones and reinforced her commitment to expanding access to affordable care and support services.

Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?

Affordability. Kansans are paying too much, from the line at the grocery store to childcare and housing costs.Reproductive rights. Kansans are facing growing threats to reproductive healthcare access, including contraception, abortion care and the freedom to make personal decisions without government interference.Education. All classrooms across the state are not being fully funded and every Kansas student suffers because of it.

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?

Reliable and affordable public transportation is essential to building an economy that works for everyone. For too many Kansans, the high cost of owning and maintaining a vehicle places an enormous strain on household budgets. Amelia supports investments in public transportation and infrastructure that expand access to jobs, education, healthcare, and essential services while reducing the financial burden on working families.

Affordable, high-quality care for children, seniors, and vulnerable loved ones is essential for strong families and a strong economy. Amelia believes Kansas families should not be forced into financial hardship simply to access the care their loved ones need.
