Alex Burton is an Evansville City Councilman and an innovative business leader at Berry Global focused on ushering, developing, and forecasting talent across the North American footprint. Councilman Burton is a leading voice for neighborhood revitalization, equity, food access, youth development, and housing.
Since being elected to serve the 4th Ward in 2019, Alex has been a consistent voice for progress and is determined to ensure ‘e’ truly is for everyone. Councilman Burton has a vision for Evansville and the entire region. In his first term, Alex was chosen to serve as President, and he has not looked back. He is committed to implementing sound policy, growing Southwestern Indiana, and ensuring that the lives of Hoosiers are better because of his service.
Councilman Burton has created multiple programs geared towards helping youth, adults, and families reach their fullest potential with federal, state, and local resources. He also serves on several nonprofit boards. As Councilman, Alex has brought people and organizations together to address our biggest challenges. His willing spirit to serve makes our community stronger, better, and more collaborative.
Alex’s record is proof that good things can happen when the right people are elected. From the creation of Feed Evansville during the pandemic to standing up for those living in substandard housing simply put – Alex cares and he always has. He is ready to go to work in Indianapolis for SW Indiana.

Our children deserve to reach their fullest potential. Alex believes that every child should have access to quality education in their neighborhood. He wants to ensure that our schools and the development of every young Hoosier is intentional. Alex also believes in fully supporting, paying, and protecting our teachers and those who have devoted careers to developing youth. Though education has become incredibly political, Alex believes that our brightest future depends on educating and preparing the next generation to thrive.The future of Evansville depends on ensuring that the companies in Evansville developing talent, our residents having access to high wage-high demand career opportunities, and are able to grow and/or attract business to our area. Alex believes that more apprenticeships and career exploration programs should be implemented for students that expose the next generation to careers most in demand. Alex has been instrumental in creating opportunities for residents to land quality and well-paying jobs across the nation. His experiences will be beneficial at the Statehouse. He is positioned and focused on legislating sound policy to best impact Hoosiers’ wallets and purses.Alex believes that our region is in a great position to thrive and wants to be a champion for Evansville, while also embracing our economic potential. In order to set our region up for future successes, we must have the right infrastructure that is safe and easy to navigate. Councilman Burton believes that Evansville can be more than just the 3rd largest city in Indiana.

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?
Alex aims to represent Evansville at the Statehouse in a way that brings dollars to Southwest Indiana to improve our infrastructure, housing, and paves the way for every resident and every business to reach its fullest potential. He will be intentional legislating and advocating for resources to address housing, food access, ensuring that our utility bills become more manageable, and positioning Evansville to better thrive.
Our community has historically done well being self-sufficient. It is now time for our state to invest more into Evansville. Our collaborative spirit continues to pay off for us, but it is important that Indiana invests in what we have sought to do independently.

What do you believe are the core responsibilities for someone elected to this office?
The core responsibility of someone elected to this office is to solve problems and build consensus. My aim is to do this at the statehouse - not get caught up in partisan politics.
